XM antenna location ?

Got a XM module that I'm going to install. From the factory it is located under the faring. Is this the best location for it? I thought that it had to be in an open area, like on the dash panel for reception.

I put mine under the dash where the instructions showed and it's been fine. Based on my problems with antennas on my truck I am shocked that it's been as effective as it is.

Mines under the dash like they tell you but it sucks in the mountains it cuts in and out. But in the valley it works fine.

Mounted mine under the fairing... no problems yet but all I use is NavWeather. I have the Zumo HD magnetic pouch for sale for $20 shipped if you want to go that route.
