KNG Rat has his way with the yellow glide

As some of you may remember, I originally was going to take my bike in a direction of custom chrome and nostalgia with ques taken from old hot rods... Then I met rob (mmcmsw) and saw Ded HD's bike in person... F*** chrome and hello black!!

So far I have blacked out my grips, levers, passenger pegs, shifter and brake pedals, added JM rokkers, in the mail is the new floorboards needed to fit the blacked out front and (surprise!!) my wife gets rear floorboards too since I found the black with silver edge cut backed that they dont sell anymore. New mirrors should arrive tomorrow along with a new set of black fork upper and lowers. Next week I'll be ordering my lowers because A. Im tired of being cold and B. my bike needs louder music.

I will post pics of the work ive done so far after I clean it tomorrow. Im going for 95% paint and 5% chrome if that much. The bike will litterlly fall apart this winter so I will be changing lots. Honestly I'm glad I live in a climate like this because otherwise all my bikes would have been stock since I hate seeing it in downtime when its above 40f.

So when should I be expecting the JIMS heat sink in the mail?

Looking forward to seeing what you do with your bike.

Cool

Sorry about that, got busy yesterday and couldn't get it ready but it works out because my mirrors, floorboards, passenger floorboards and fork tubes came in the mail. I havent put on the passengers yet because I need the mounts for em. The fork tubes I will tackle when I have some time to tear into the front end of the bike. Probably tonight if I get some time. Can anyone advise me on what all needs to come off to do the swap?? It looks like a pull the axle, drop the wheel out, unbolt the fender and the calipers, then I unscrew the upper and slide it down so I can pull the forks out? I've never work on these type of tubes, but I have changed forks out before.

The first images are from this morning and show with the old floorboards on. I litterally just changed em out 10 minutes ago.

I have the shorty annetena on but eventually I want to go with a smooth fender look or atleast pull the it and put a cap in the hole. I cant decide if i want to paint the inner fairing or if that will to too yellow. I do like the black and have thought about if I paint it, leaving the glove box doors black and then getting all black gauges instead of silvery white. I dont know if its because Im starting to go black or people notice the yellow but Im getting more looks recently. I am a sexy man however...

So do I need to remove the entire front assembly then, to access it all?

No, there's 4 torx (T-40, if I remember), 2 on each fork leg on the upper fork cover, look between the inner fairing and your cover, you should see them. You should be able to get them off just fine. Pull your ignition and the "position piece" that's under it, pull your speedo/tach cluster then pull the upper fork cover. After that you should beable to fully get to everything that you need to

This is one of the times that you can happy to not have a painted inner fairing......now when I take everything apart I tape and paper the $hit outta everything then toss a couple towels in to be safe.

I found the DIY on pull the fork sliders off. The only link that was still available was the semi walk through using the RK which im guesing is the same steps, unbolt it all, drain the forks, get the new sliders, refill said forks and reverse it all back on? I really need to get the service manual...

Aside from the enigine, my near future black out plans are, the forks(obviously), crash bars and the fairing mounts, crash bar mounts and relocating the passenger pegs to these mounts. Changing the floorboard inserts to the edge cuts along with the brake and shifter levers themselves. New exhaust will be black. I really want to get slotted heat shields and I swear ive seen em somewhere but I cant remember where?? I'll be doing up the bag mounts in black, along with the sissy bar and the 4 point docking with the fender mount underneather too. I dont know if i will do anything with the turn signals mostly because id like to get either a full cvo rear end or one of those fender fillers with the sickle lights in em.

I kinda like my stock rims right now. If I change em out, most likely Ill talk to ride wright and get some cool fatty spokes.

I am going with new bars over the winter. I like burly brands 13" bagger bars. They are made for the batwings and as such curve back and then up. I think they will look kickass with the rest of the blackout.

Wellp... got the new forks on(thanks othello)! Now i think the crash bars need the black treatment and so does the engine. A king tour pak will be sooner than later. SWIII is coming sonner than i thought!!

I like the black and theres axle covers coming that are "like" the edge cuts. The uppers im considering going with the edge cuts. I like the all black but i also love the raw look.
