Need paint help

Need some help...

My dad has an 11 CVO RGU that he had a lot of work done last year. All on the back end. CVO custom fender, stretched bags, detached tour pack, etc... We used a local painter that we have used before. Highly recommended and good guy. However, the color on the back (Rio Red) doesn't match the front. Especially in the sun.

We're trying to decide what to do... Painter has agreed to help make it right. However, we don't want to make it worse. Trying to decide if we have him re-do it, change the red color completely to something that is a little brighter, whole new custom paint theme, go somewhere else and pay... Any suggestions???

At this point there's half a bike to paint one way or the other. If the paint of the local painter looks good it may be cheaper to have him to the front end pieces to make them match.

For me... Any CVO that has custom color and needs paint work will be done by gunslinger as he paints a lot of the CVO bikes for HD. Good luck and I hope you get it straightened out.

Halstem 1,
I just had custom paint work done, and for my 2 cents, it's probably better to have him paint the front end to match his work on the rear end. You did say he's willing to work with you to make it right. This may be a chance to get a "custom" paint job at a good rate. This is why Harley paints are unique and not every "professional" can duplicate the paintwork. I've been there with these type of unexpected headaches. Good luck and I hope everything works out for you...

Since we are on our own in matching the non obtainable CVO colors it makes doing mods like this really tough.

Gunslinger in CO of course is the ultimate choice since they painted most those in the first place, but they won't paint a part that's available in the HD catalog pre-painted.

If your painter is willing and if you don't mind the color on the back end of the bike I would say paint the rest of it to match.

The CVO fascia wasn't available on the 2011 CVO ultra and he would not be in violation for painting one.

Nor will they paint a NON-HD part. I called to inquire about painting an RWD wrap fender and a set of BadDad stretched side covers for my 2012 CVO Maple Metallic. They told me NO, can't do it because of an agreement with HD.

I really want to paint over the original Rio Red with a different HD red like the Ember Red Sunglow just to give it more pop and a 1 off design without losing the CVO appearance. Just not sure. Seems like a lot of work when you get into the tank, faring, and fender.

I've had non HD parts painted without issue by gunslinger.
