Facia for Rockford Fosgate source unit

Looking for a faceplate/facia for a Rockford Fosgate source unit to replace the HD head unit.

I see yaffe has one included in his kit, but I am not interested in making his next mortgage payment buying it from him.

Anyone know of a faceplate that is available separately from somewhere?

I'm looking everywhere and am coming up empty.

thanks!

Looks sweet! Tell us about the head unit. Is it wired into your handlebar controls? Does it have preamps? I am looking to upgrade my stereo and all signs point to updating the head unit with speakers and amp. However most head units I see I dont like, look cheap or like they will break with heavy rain. This one looks solid!

Although I didnt buy the unit from Yaffe, I did splurge on the peripheral that he offers. With it, you are able to use the hand controls. And it makes the installation a snap. The head unit has a built in 200 watt amp so unless you are really wanting to pump up the volume, I think it is adequate. That being said, it does have amp outputs. I also purchased a Ipod cord for the unit directly though Rockford. I bought the unit off ebay. What you see is in the pic is just the wired remote. It is purchased separately form the hidden unit which I mounted right behind. Be sure if you are going to purchase to get the RFX5000. I mistakenly bought the RFX3000 which is great but the 5000 offers blue tooth capabilities.

Parts needed:

RFX5000 hide away box can be had on ebay for about $200
RFXMR5BB controller off ebay for about $100
IPODEC iPod Accessory Cable from Rockford $40
Peripheral hand control kit from Yaffe $280
3/16" Black plastic off ebay $5

Total cost about $600. If you buy the whole kit from Yaffe you will spend $900 and it doesnt come with the IPODEC. Cost more than a standard DIN unit, but only because of buying the peripheral. Most DIN units wont allow the use of hand controls. And a amp is built in. SO..... I think its a great deal.

On a side note, the remote needs to be trimmed. I used a rotozip tool to take the top and bottom edge off. I also took some of the bottom edge off the inner fairing lip. It is tight but if you make the plastic piece sit more upright in the fairing as opposed to the steeper angle that the OEM unit sets, it gives you more room. And it allows you to view the screen better. I back beveled the plastic to fit nice and tight. I havent decided how to attach that piece yet as I am considering making it flip open for additional storage behind it. Great spot for a pistol!! I will try to get some pics of the mods to the unit and the fairing.

great write up tsas, thanks!

one question, I'm assuming by the shape of the head unit, you had to do some surgery on your inner fairing where the stock HK unit was? Am I correct in this?

None required except for the lip as I already indicated. That remote is only about 3/8" thick. The seperate hide away box fits nicely where the OEM radio would go.

Check out Medallion Gauges Bagger Stereo http://www.medallionis.com/BaggerStereo.html. Its the same Rockford Fosgate head unit as Yaffe's with a different face. The manual even shows a picture of the original RF unit and Yaffe's so the guts are all the same. I shopped around and found the best price at Phat Performance for somewhere around $650. I've been very pleased with it. Lots of plug-ins to add everything from Sirius, amps, etc. Its got an internal 200 watt amp also. Just an option..

Have a the parts to start this same mod. How did you end up attaching the 3/16" plastic to the inner fairing and how did you attach the remote to the plastic?

I like the plastic but now that I have all the parts I am thinking I may need to make it from aluminum to allow drilling and tapping holes to mount the remote tight with the rubber seal?
