need new outer fairing

I was really hoping it wouldn't come to this, but it looks like I'm going to have to replace the outer fairing on my 2013 road glide. It's a Big Blue Pearl Ultra and the mounting screws have finally given up the ghost. I've tried every conceivable repair I know and took it to the local body shop yesterday and they just shook their heads and said it needs to be replaced. Now when a dude that makes his living repairing shit says to replace it, I think it's time to replace it. I've got a message out to Jon at Horny toad HD to price an OEM painted one, but want to know if any one here has had any luck with other suppliers. Anybody use the ebay route? if so- thoughts? Any advise/info on this would be helpful.

I'm no paint and body guy by any means and if your friend told you it needs to be replaced it very well may need to be. I don't know what all you've tried but mine was getting where about three of the mounting holes in the outer fairing were getting worn and the screws wouldn't tighten good anymore. I went to Lowes and found some plastic epoxy by Loctite and mixed it up and put it in the screw holes, then threaded the screws in them and left it for 24 hours. You can actually feel the plastic get warm to the touch after you put it on. Mine has been solid ever since. May not fix yours but it's a cheap option to try before you buy an outer fairing, that is if this isn't one of the things you've already tried. Good luck.

You can use JB Weld to repair the screw holes. Spray some Pam or other cooking oil spray on the screws and let them set, mix JB Weld and pack the holes, then while the JB Weld is still soft insert the screws by pushing and turning the screw to establish threads in the hole. Let the JB Weld cure and screw out the screws and your fairing is fixed.
I did get a new HD painted outer from PC Pain once and the price was great. IMO it is best to get the outer from HD if you want the paint and decals to match, you could get a aftermarket outer but then you would need to paint it so you really won't save any money.

Told myself IF IF my repairs, which have held for over 40k and a few removals,
I'd bond a four sided nut, or nurrel to spot and use a bolt a washer spacers on the outer of the inner to secure it

Worth a try**
