Black chrome

Has anyone done the black chrome? How expensive was it? Any pics? I have a 16 RGU Cosmic Blue Pearl and I think it would look good. All thoughts and criticism is welcome

Look at the Pics in my Garage - I have a ton of Black Chrome on my RGS - Bars, Wheels, Front Caliper, Turn Signals, Rear Signal Bar, Docking Station, Cow Bells and Center Console - Tough to really make it out in a photo though and most don't even notice until they get right up on it - Tad more expensive than a good PC

My wheels are black chrome. I like it. Easy as hell to clean.

I don't know if it's from the over regulation or what but in my parts black chrome is more expensive then regular quality chrome which is WAY more than PC. More than double. I was shocked.

Check out a process called PVD coating. Physical vapor deposition is what it stands for in case you were wondering. I have seen it in the cycle and car world. Just another avenue to check into.

You have to ask yourself? Is it blk Cr (like in electoplating) or a surface finish like electroless to other surface finishes from alloys and reducers&activators to applied paint, dipped or as above sputtered, vacuumed chambered..
on n on.
There's been numerous advances, many proprietary and many looks like, ex: tin nickel - NiStan process
The hardness is not the same, cosmetic mostly and substrate dependent esp for temp.

Set up a true 300 gal blk Cr tank back in the mid90's ..... about burnt the shop down ..when keeping the bath within parameters by reducing the hex to tri with simple sugars

I have heard that the whole blk cr process is a bitch to do. So i guess what you are saying is "once its done its not as durable as just chrome itself" ????

Thanks

Not at all - I have to have (2) pieces "Touched Up" over the Winter where either BugSlide of BikerSpirits caused the finish to diminish - (1) CowBell and the center console look like part of the finish was just rubbed off

Once a porn a time it wasn't, had to be post oiled an babied, only for show, esp bikes. You could tweak the bath and relieve the plating to the underplate, usually nickel and make an antique finish (not like antiquein brass), this plating on plating, so with even like blk Ni over gold you could dupe antique Au....
Then solar panels developed, anyways
Answer: no, not being true micro-discontinuious chrome, but it does throw nice and mostly trivalant charged, kinda not an element, though the
ions do go to atoms with applied electomotive forces.
I do suspect these new forever finishes are superior, those are million dollar chambers they are using. Most of the vendors to plating shops in my days didnt get past plating 101.
And yes it strips easy too.

Usually an inorganic acid takes Chrome off (HCl), not organic crap

Yes cat piss will too
