lowers......vent doors loose

I tried to scan the forum looking for a solution.....but couldn't find one.

On my 2012 FLTRU the lowers have the sliding vent doors.......as I recall they had little detents that they would settle in and keep them in various states of open/closed. Well.......they no longer do this and they always seem to migrate to the closed position. With the temps here in East Texas in the upper 90's and the humidity about the same....I thought I needed to fix this......if there is a fix. I've looked at Ronnie's Harley online parts finder and what I see are 2 different serrated nylon washers......black and white. Is this what is worn out?

Thoughts?

i would start with the rubber bushing. take a look at it. is it 'smooshed'? if so, that's probably the extent of your problem. replace it, tighten it up until you like the action, and you should be good.

but, living in the texas heat, which is similar to louisiana heat, another option is to remove the vent completely in the summer. i would take mine off around mar/apr and put them back on nov/dec. it isn't particularly difficult to do and gives you a lot more air flow.

Lots of places for those doors to go bad. They have a guide slot that rides on a pin. If the slot or pin wear through, the door sags and then self closes. The recess where the wonder material bushings sit in the inner support panel can crack, and then the doors come off of the pins and self close. And the wonder material can just get hard with age and loose the preload need to hold the door open.

The older ones that had coil spring preloaders were a lot better.
