Gotta Rant- Not RG related

Each year the fire department walks into my business and inspects the tag on my fire extinguisher. They spend about 45 seconds with me. Yesterday I got a bill from the City of Santa Monica for $131.00 for my fire safety inspection. WTF!!!! So, I call the city to complain. I'm told that there's noting anyone can do about it and that the city council voted in the fee. On April 1, the sales tax in the City of Santa Monica is going up to 10.25%. Furthermore, I pay a double annual city tax fee for being on Montana Ave. The parking attendants on Montana Ave. are using tape measures to give people tickets if they're parked too far from the curb. They give J-walking tickets to pedestrians and ticket motorists if they impede a crosswalk before a pedestrian has completely crossed the street (even if they're on the other side). This is just getting out of hand. The fees are relentless! The politicians and city officials need to get a clue. Montana Ave. used to be Santa Monica's premier shopping district. Now there are over 65 empty store fronts for rent. At this rate there may be 66.

Sorry for the rant.

I hear you & feel your "PAIN" !!!! Up here in Sacramento people are pissed because of all the parking tickets being handed out. They have machines to purchase your hourly ticket but some of them don't even work. No body wants to go down town. They're even trying to pas a "Crash Tax" If you're from out of town & get in a crash they'll charge you. I believe that's if any one responds to your crash. It's all about the "MONEY"

I agree but Santa Monica is one of the richest municipalities in California. Santa Monica has more wealth than Beverly Hills. The politicians know that business owners cannot vote in Santa Monica so we have absolutely no power. Many people have their entire life invested in their businesses and have nothing to show for it. People are loosing everything. I'm not saying that taxes don't have their place in society but there is a line and their needs to be some fairness. $131.00 for 45 seconds is ridiculous. Also, with a sales tax of 10.25%, we're one of the highest in the country. People will drive an extra mile and shop in Los Angeles. There's a point at which we're no longer sacrificing for the greater good, rather, we're getting screwed!

In some ways I regret posting this thread. I don't think I'm going to comment any more because I don't want to be pissed off all day. Thanks for the input.

I'm a big fan of Tru-Tone Music and dealer shows at the SM Civic Auditorium.

I spent 3 or so years working there, but the promenade is a mess. instant fines, instant tickets

10.25% is pretty darn high.

I heard Disney wants to shut down the promenade and make it another theme park.

Run for office,.. lots of other business owners would back you since Im sure they are feeling the same way. Get in there and shake things up,. if you don't get in at least you tried.

For a wounded man shall say to his assailant,
'If I live, I will kill you. If I die, You are forgiven.'
Such is the rule of honor.

It's the business owners that have a clue about how things need to run. The folks who run government need to be business-savvy in order to understand a balance sheet. But the things that the business guy would say need to be done to right the ship won't be popular, cause taking away all that spending ,without even caring about where the money is coming from, is gonna take money from someone. We, as people, have to wake up and realize what is going on, and support candidates who see it as it is, and are willing to do something about it. Do candidates like that even exist ? I think they do, and we will begin to see more of them as things get more out of control.
