1200 Miles and Wheel Bearings Go to Hell!

Going down the road about 80 and the howling starts. Try to ride it to dealer but I went home and just trailered to the shop. Tech jumps on it and would leave the parking lot. About sh.t himself when he heard it.

101000 miles on my 11 and same bearings. You can just never tell. I'm ready for new tires and I'll surely check them while I have them off.

SuperTrapp cans, decatted head pipe, Dobeck TFI, Andrews 48H cams, Rivera Taper Lite push rods, Crane lifters, SE Ventilator, Khrome Werks 2+2 bars, Progressive springs in the front.

1200 miles??? Some ting wong. Did this start after your 1000 mi service? My first thought was someone got over zealous with a pressure washer.

I always hand wash with the garden hose. Started at about 1150 miles. I'm just glad it didn't let go on the highway. That would not have been pretty.

I was suggesting maybe a newbie starting out at the wash rack at the dealership, hence the 1000mi service. I've heard them going out as early as 25k, but 1200 miles seems like a new record. Maybe someone didn't torque the wheel down right, or they're made in China, with only the thinnest layer of grease, who knows? Anyway, glad you caught it in time.

I didn't take it that way. If there was a high pressure sprayer it would have been done on pre delivery. 1K asked them just to wipe down.

Maybe it was because it was built on a Monday. Can you say hangover!

My front right (non-abs) bearing was toast at about 5k. At the time I was cursing the cheap sealed bearings. So I have been changing the front set with every tire change (~12k) and not seeing any problems. Changed my rear bearings last winter with 45k and the original bearings were in good shape.

I'm less concerned with the quality of the bearings now and think the mo-co is often pressing the second wheel bearing too tight. They should only be tight enough to take up the slack on the spacer sleeve. I'm also concerned that many techs can get the second bearing too tight as well.
