What could have been..

Haven't been on here in a LONG time. Taking care of personal things in life. Anyway, I'm getting ready to ride from Michigan down to Louisiana to see family. Just changed all the fluids, new back brakes, filter, and plugs. Rode it all day yesterday, and today while I'm walking out of the garage, I noticed what looked like a bubble on the tire. Looks like it's delaminating. If I had parked the bike two inches forward or back, I wouldn't have seen that. Who knows what could have happened while rolling down the super slab. Still thanking the Lord above for telling me to park it right there. Now to scramble to a few shops tomorrow morning after work and see if I can get a new tire. Was hoping to be on the road Wednesday morning after work. This is a Michellin Commander II with barely 4k miles on it.

Wow. Glad you found that. I had a tire crack right along the rim. Noticed it just as I was ready to leave on a 700 mile trip. Tire was 6 no the old. Rode right to where I got it. They swapped it out for a new one. (Not free) but fast. I made my trip.

I've read too many stories of tires just disintegrating while riding. Scared the shit out of me thinking what I may have just avoided.

Good thing you caught that before hitting the big slab.

Is it just an impact injury? Or was there a small puncture? It'll be interesting to see what it looks like on the inside.

I don't have any idea of what could cause that, but I'm glad you discovered it while the bike was stationary. I think I would still contact the tire manufactuer to see what they say and if they may be able to replace the tire or compensate you in some way.

Thumbs up

Thanks everybody, for the welcome back. I got the tire replaced this morning, and have it back on the bike. I'll be heading South tomorrow morning! Unfortunately, I didn't even look at the inside of the tire when they removed it. I also left it there, so I probably won't be contacting Michelin to complain about a tire I don't own anymore. Lol! Glad it's behind me, and I'm ready to roll.

What tire did you mount in its place ? I've had a similar problem with a Metz.888. It had over 18k on it though.

2010 FLTRX , Stage 1, 13" Madstad, Mono tubes, SuperShox, Heritage style bars. Alpine CDE-HD149BT,Soundstream Picasso Nano Series PN4.520 , 5X7 and 6.5 Infinity Kappa speakers
If I have to explain ,you wouldn't under stand anyway.

I stuck with the Michelin Commander II. I've had good results with that tire thus far, and would like to think this issue is just a fluke. I hope...
