180/55/18 Rear wheel wobble

I have a 2012 RGU that I upgraded the wheels to Agitators. When I got the rear wheel it had a Goldwing tire on it. At 60 mph and above I got a bad wobble in the rear. Took it to the HD dealer in Miami where I had ridden the bike to. They thought it was the tire itself to which we changed to a HD tire for the wheels. That seemed to have fixed it initially until I took the bike to 90 mph. At that point the wobble came back. At a loss now as to what could be the problem.

Is it a wobble or a out of balance situation.. I changed wheels on my 08 and went to 18" with lower profile tires they vibrated a lot at speed was a balance issue. When I did that change I lost a lot of the smooth ride the meatier tires gave, they absorb a lot of small road imperfections that you feel with these lo profile tires. I was actually thinking of putting a 17" on my front of my 2017 and a 80 series tire just to soften the ride.

I had that set-up on my 2011 with zero issues, so I am wondering if the wheel is bent or damaged by the previous owner.

This was my fear. I bought the wheel off Ebay from a dishonest broker. I plan on taking the bike back to Harley to verify if the wheel is damaged. I would have thought that when they put the tire on the wheel and balanced it they would've seen a wheel error.

pryda, when you first had the wheel installed were the wheel bearings checked?
Just a thought.
Hope you find the problem.

Yes the bearing were part of the troubleshooting in Miami. The mechanic said they were good.

I think you may have found the answer to your problem with that ^ statement. Otherwise, unless it can be proven that the bearings are new I personally would have new bearings installed in any used wheel I were to buy. Another thing to check is the tire itself, even though it is new there is the possibility that something might be amiss with it. Not likely, but possible. I had a brand new Avon Cobra that was a dud. See if the dealer can troubleshoot the rim separately from the wheel assembly. Spin the rim on the balancer to check for runouts and then the compete wheel assembly and check the same if the rim check didn't produce any negative results. Just my .02. Good luck!

I'm having this same exact problem putting these wheels on my 2015 RG Special. I put a 1" lowering kit on and it helped but didn't get rid of the problem. Is there anything you found to help yet?
