Sorry I missed you all, I'm local to Gettysburg, but the weather really screwed up my schedule. Maybe next time? Glad you enjoyed the trip.

Thanks to all that contributed ! Certainly, the advice made out trip all the better !!!
To re-cap, we were in the area during one of the two wettest weeks on record. So, we were adjusting, dancing between the rain, and in some cases, sitting on the porch watching it pour.
We had a very nice house rented, in Fairfield close to Liberty Ski area. Great house for a group. There were 9 of us, and 6 had there own rooms, one likes a couch, and two were is a game room building about 50 yards away. Great porch for hanging too ! (Find it thru Airbnb - Corrine)
We were escorted on a tour of the Battlefields on our bikes by Phillip Cole. A licensed guide, and author. Great guy, knows his history, and I highly recommend. Half the cost of getting on a bus, and able to adjust and tailor to your interests. We are able to see a bit more of Firefighters, Irish, and Massachusetts aspects, as that comprised our group. We had two hours booked, and he stayed with us for about 45 minutes overtime. Contact him thru: [email protected]
We did eat at the Pike. Huge portions, average food. Surprising to us, Battlefield HD was re-stocked, only a week after the Bike Week. Or, maybe the rain had held crowds/sales down. Note, they had few new bikes on the floor.
Trying to stay dry, we did skip over a lot. We die breeze thru the HD plant in York. Added a stay dry un planned overnight stop in Bethlehem PA. Braveheart was a very good tavern. Excellent food.
As to other stops and sights:
Hunter Mountain Zip Line is awesome. Take the longer/expensive one. As the shortest of the 6 runs on that one, is longer that the entire short/cheap run.
Motorcyclepedia Museum in Newburg NY is outstanding. Two almost full football field sized floors, filled with MC. The complete line of Indians, start to finish - plus. HD well covered, as are all other brands I am aware of. Henderson, Yamaha, Honda, Triumph, etc... Well worth the $15. ---- No we didn't bother with the other motorcycle places in Newburg....
West Point is great. I have been there 5 times. We had an active duty Major in our crew, so we toured on the MC's. Not sure if all can do that.
Avoid the Appalachian Motel in Vernon NJ. Worst entrance to any commercial business I have ever been to. Awful from both directions. On blind curves, switch back uphill going south. Blind left going north.
NYC Freedom Tower and 911 Memorial are must go experiences. We stayed fairly close, at the Four Points Sheraton on Platt St. Parking is close. The attached Break restaurant and bar were good. Felcia, an awesome old school Italian Restaurant is 75' away. **** I planned out approach to come into the city on 278, and over the Brooklyn Bridge. Longer, but safer IMHO.
This was our 4th year of longer trips. Certainly, our luck with weather ran out. But, we adjusted and were able to stay dry. Just lost out on some of the planned excursions. Next year, maybe the upper West Coast. Pacific Coast Highway, Redwoods. On thru to Washington State. Or, to some other still to be determined destination.
Next up, 7 of us going to the Winter Classic at Notre Dame. Bruins vs Blackhawks. Then our annual Bike Week in Laconia NH, with a crew of 18 in June.
Thanks again all !
If you ever need advice on MC travel o New England, Nova Scotia, eastern NY State. Deadwood (Sturgis) send me a PM

I want to thank everyone again for their input !
The trip starts on 7/28. Will be in Gettysburg area Monday evening 7/30 thru Friday morning 8/3.
Our Motorcycle tour of the Battlefields is Tuesday about 11am. There are nine of us. Anyone in the area that wants to join, $12 each.
I have all the previous thoughts written down. The plan will remain a work in progress, for another week. Please add idea's to this thread !

The last time I was at Mountain House, the view inside was as good as outside, if you get my drift.
There's a decent twisty detour if you're headed west on RT 30. A few miles west of Gettysburg hang a right at the red flashing light on to Cashtown Rd and follow it into Arendtsville. At the stop sign turn left onto Rt 234, it will take you along the creek and back to Rt 30.
You never did tell us the dates...just sayin'

|rydin2||Let me pre warn you that some of these roads I have never been on and others have been 25 years since I have been on them but here goes..... From Gettysburg head west through South Mtn to Mont Alto to Waynesborough to Greencastle to Mercersburg to Ft. Loudon. Mtn House for Lunch at the top of the ridge on US 30. From the Mtn House there is a road directly across Rt 30 heading north PA 1005 which will wind around and take you through Cowans Gap State park and turns into PA 4004. Follow that through Fanettsburg over the mtn turns in to PA 533 at Upper Strausburg towards Shippensburg. From Shippensburg looks like a nice road through Michaux State Forrest back to Gettysburg.|

Thanks for the input.
We have booked a motorcycle tour guide. Good value at $12 each, and the guide has written 3 books on the battle. So, it should be awesome.
To the down side, our hoped for Harley Steel Toe Tour can't happen. As the plant is re-tooling and not offering it during our stay. The regular tour is available.
Any good rides to/from the Mountain House ?
Other good twisty rides in area ?
