    Troubleshooting for Road Glides
I was up around Deal's Gap last week and my bike started running weird while cruising. In any gear with low, constant throttle it would start acting like it wasn't getting enough fuel, surging, and popping through the rear cylinder exhaust. As soon as I would give it more throttle, it would...
  2. Has anyone tried the Kenda Cataclysm tires?

    Wheels and Tires
I started out running the H-D recommended 36 front 40 rear but the bike felt really weird, like it didn't want to turn at all. It was fighting me the whole time. I eventually settled on 42/42 and it works great for me. I've got a little over 6500mi on them now. The front shows zero wear, the...
  3. 2019 style bars on a 2010

    Controls & Handlebars
I got the chance to demo a '19 RGS last week and I really liked the handlebar position. The bike was nice but I can't see myself getting rid of my current ride.... yet. Anyways, is there any way to get bars from a new RGS or RGU on an older model? Or are there bars out there that duplicate the...
  4. Has anyone tried the Kenda Cataclysm tires?

    Wheels and Tires
I have had the Cataclysm tires on my '10 FLTRX for the past 4000 miles and I like them a lot. I mounted them at home with the HF tire changer and mojolever. I put ride-on sealant in my tires and they have been smooth as silk the whole time.
  5. Metal Flakes on Transmission Plug

    Troubleshooting for Road Glides
I've got a 2010, thought I had it in my sig, I'll update it. I double checked my owners manual and the transmission oil change interval is definitely 20,000 miles.
  6. Metal Flakes on Transmission Plug

    Troubleshooting for Road Glides
Oh man, I was hoping for a unanimous "don't worry, ride it" response... I'm going to look into the necessary tools dor repair just in case. I may put some less expensive gear oil in with one of them strong drain plug magnets for a thousand miles or so and do another check.
  7. Metal Flakes on Transmission Plug

    Troubleshooting for Road Glides
So I just hit 50k on my glide and dropped the tranny oil. This is what the drain plug looked like. I've been running redline shockproof in it. When I drained the pan, I found about 20 more small particles in the bottom of the drain pan, too small to have been picked up by the plug. I feel the...
  8. Whine from Primary

    Troubleshooting for Road Glides
Thanks! I think I would regret going swimming with the hog... I don't feel that the Baker components are an unknown to the equation, I think they are an upgrade. I'm going with stock tensioner for now and hopefully it doesn't ratchet up tight and cause issues. But as long as everything is happy...
  9. Whine from Primary

    Troubleshooting for Road Glides
I had the Hayden for about 10k miles before I started getting the noise. The video was an older video from when the noise started and I originally thought it was from that side of the bike. As far as the compensator, I tried out the BDL compensator before and that was a no go, so I went back...
  10. Whine from Primary

    Troubleshooting for Road Glides
That was my first thought when the whole whine started. I have been running the Hayden M6 tensioner since just after the rebuild. When I pulled it apart, everything looked good and the primary chain was snug with no slack, but not too tight to flex it by hand. When I assembled it this time, I...
  11. are the downloadable service manuals any good?

I bought my PDF service manual off of ebay a few years ago. It is clickable and searchable and everything. I think they get around the copyright issues by selling you their time to make it searchable and all that...
  12. BDL compensator

    Tech Area
Thanks for the reply Mike U. Between the comp and lifters and air cleaner oil and bad mileage and whatever my mind thinks is wrong with the bike, I'm about to go nuts. I'd like to be able to work on something and have it stay fixed.... I wish I was one of the Harley riders who rode and had no...
  13. BDL compensator

    Tech Area
Hey Mike U, any updates to how that compensator is still doing in there? My stock one is shot, rattling all the time going down the road. The new bdl I have in the box is starting to look tempting....
  14. Lifter going bad or worse?

    Troubleshooting for Road Glides
Wow thanks for the writeup on replacing the lifters. I do have stock pushrods so I'll have to pull the rocker covers and all that. I've got a service manual too. I called Feuling and was told I can send them in to get looked at and replaced if necessary. I just don't want to be down from riding...
  15. Lifter going bad or worse?

    Troubleshooting for Road Glides
The motor had to be rebuilt at 32,800 because my crank scissored, the rod bearing cage came apart and threw metal through the engine.... I was out of warranty and h-d said too bad, so I upgraded. The engine was built by H&D Cycles in Lillian, AL. I'm in the military and have since been stationed...
  16. Lifter going bad or worse?

    Troubleshooting for Road Glides
I've searched all over the web and haven't found anything exactly like I'm experiencing so here goes... I have a 2010 RGC with 36,800 on it. I had to have the engine rebuilt last winter at 32,700 miles, so I have a little over 4k on the rebuild. I went with a new S&S 3-piece crank, S&S 106 kit...
  17. BDL compensator

    Tech Area
Well I just received my replacement in the mail the other day. This compensator is different than the one I sent back. The washer on the inside of the comp is much larger than before and there is also a number stamped on the outside of the sprocket. The first one didn't have a stamp, I think...
  18. BDL compensator

    Tech Area
The first time I opened mine up for noise the bolt was really loose, I forgot to mention that in my earlier post. I cleaned the bolt and crank threads and I put lots of red loctite this time instead of two drops. I torqued to 100 then back a turn then to 140ft/lb. I let the loctite cure for a...
  19. BDL compensator

    Tech Area
Rlaf75, I also have the BDL compensator installed and I'm running the Hayden M6 tensioner. I have about 750mi on my comp and I notice the same noise at idle in neutral with clutch released. I pulled my cover and checked the compensator and it wasn't moving freely, like it was seized up. I...

    Road Trip Discussions/Stories/Pictures
Hey I wanted to post this sooner but it's just fallen by the wayside... My wife and I took a trip in the summer/fall of '12 on the bike. If you read the first 34 days you'll see the bike part. Plans changed and we had to take the car for some of it. So read the bike part because it was a lot of...
