I'm hoping someone could shed some light on this topic. Other riders tell me that my bike smokes when I get get on the throttle hard. What could this be?

Sounds like piston rings.
My experience with smoky engines are - Intake valves or Piston Rings.
Either way - major work is required, so do the whole thing and do the work once.

If you think about it - intakes open when the cylinder is going down - a vacuum of sorts. Excess clearance or bad stem seal causes a leak.

Exhaust valves always open against a positive pressure - they "burn" more than they develop minor stem seal leakage.

Loose piston rings suck oil mist or vapors in during the intake (vacuum) stroke. And - the more you're pumping, the more that burn occurs - your smoke under acceleration.

New engine or rebuild fixes all that.
I'd find the excuse to go big bore, but that's just me.

What motor is it? I had a 103 with a stage 4 kit in my 2011 and it went through 4 sets of pistons in just under 2 years before selling the thing back to the stealer. They never could get it to run right. The second owner took it to his shop and they couldn't get it right either. 3rd owner now taking the motor back to stock configuration. Hope yours isn't like my experience. My whole saga with that is posted here if you do a search under my name and Stage 4. I loved the power, but it was NOT worth it.

Black smoke is fuel, blue smoke is oil. If the smoke is black you have a tuning problem and can be cured with a good tune. Blue smoke may be a bit more costly, First do a compression test and see what the compression is. If the compression is low then squirt some oil into the cylinder and test it again if the compression goes up then there is a problem with the rings if it stays the same then it may be the valves. Also in the top of the cylinders in the rocker box is the crankcase vent and if the butterfly valve is malfunctioning then you will get more oil into the intake causing the bike to blow blue smoke. If the bike blows blue smoke when you first start it for the day it is caused by oil seeping into the cylinder from a bad valve or valve seal. Also IMO the stage 4 is a waste of money a good cam and exhaust upgrade with a good tune will give you a good dependable touring bike. :wink:

One thing that I didn't mention is that the engine doesn't use oil. I've never had to add oil between oil changes.

they are mad because you're walking away from them. Got someone you trust to ride your bike to see for yourself.
