I know there are two kits sold by HD, one with and one without cam kits with about a $200 diff in price. And I didn't know that a Stage one 96 would out power a stock 103. I'm in that deciding phase leaning heavily on the 103 kit. How much stronger can one make a stock 96 to be comparible with a beefed up 103?It does not come with cams. However it does come with an oil cooler and an automatic decompression release because the compression is bumped by around .6. It responds to basic mods a little better than the 96 motor, but a stage one 96 will out power a stock 103. The 103 is a great starting place for building power.
I knew someone would say that when I was writing this thread. LOLActually they all come with cams LOL unfortuneately just plain jane stock ones.
Think of a blacksmith. The bellows pushes more air in the fire (not fuel) thus making the fire burn hotter. A lean engine has too much air thus making it hotter. The trick to getting the bike to run cooler is the same as getting the fuel mixture correct. Get it?I have often wondered how running more fuel (richer) and more air (opening up the airbox and exhaust) through it, which creats more power will make it run cooler.
Like, if I put more wood on the fire it will be cooler. Or, if I put no gas and air through the bike it will get so hot it melts down. Oh m doG! I think it's burning up in the garage right now!
Could someone either explain this or point me to an understandable explaination?

Good stuff bro!I just put a stage one hd air cleaner on, D&D boss fat cat, t-man 600 cam ( new grind not on his site yet) and tts master tune. Stock I had 63hp and 79tq. I am now at 98hp and 111tq. Just put an a$$ wooping on a se 110 ultra, he had cams and a tts tune also.
Pgh heat is a non issue if tuned right, including the timing tables!
And the 103 comes with stock cams from factory, dealer might have a cam option but it's at the dealer level
