So my new st has bad vibration at 3k rpm and up. Doesn’t matter on gear or speed and is worse on deceleration than acceleration, however on no load it’s also bad. Has anybody else heard of this problem.

So talked to the tech today and the motor is out and stripped down the counter balancer had some abnormal wear on it especially being there is less than 200 miles. That’s getting replaced along with some bearings. I’m going to look at it tomorrow so I can see the cylinders beings I’m worried about possible wear on the walls.

Really sorry to hear this for ya. Keep us in the loop on this, now I'm really curious as to what all is done to the motor to remedy it. Post some pics of the abnormal wear if you can muster up any pics. Good luck!

Did I miss something here, or am I half a step ahead of the actions for a change. They are replacing any damaged parts of course, but have they figured out just what it was that shed some metal that CAUSED the damage?

AND THE SAGA CONTINUES!!! So the dealer called and told me the bike was together and good to go they said the tech rode it and the service manager rode it, Bullshit they rode it. Has exactly the same problem as before. The service manager rode it today after I took it down the street and felt the same thing. So I don't know where to go from here but the experience of my new st is about done.

they did split them when the counter balancer was replaced. The whole engine was disassembled and that one pic was the only wear they could find leading to the replacement. I contacted Harley customer care and they could give 2 f@*ks. It took 2 weeks to overnight parts from Harley according to dealer, and yes I'm giving the dealer the benefit of the doubt because my experience has been positive with them so far.

I was a little suspect when you showed the picture of that bearing surface. I would at that point have leaned toward a possible shifted crank or some excess runout which I hope they checked any which way you look at it. Ask them to warranty the motor with a 131 crate motor and pay the difference. Just a thought.

So the dealer shipswapped out the exhaust and told me that it was better. I'am going down there tomorrow to ride it and see, they have told me this before. I did call s&s and they said they have had some problems with their brackets and are sending me a new one that has been updated better design and has some rubber for vibration. The tech from s&s was awesome and returned the call with in 30 min. I don't think its all the exhaust beings the wear that was found on the counter balancer but we'll see.

Surprised (or not!) there was no discussion about what the crank run-out was. Seems like that would be step 1 to eliminate the crank as the 'initiating' cause first before focus on counter balancers. Maybe they did and...uh-oh?

I think the counter balancer just happened since they replaced it the vibration changed to a very specific rpm about 3k. S&s sent a new bracket that I’m taking to the shop tomorrow for them to install. S&s knew exactly what I was talking about when I called them and told me they have an updated bracket. Hopefully they are right.

Huh, I have a ton of vibration in my new 117 at around 3k RPM, I was under the impression that it was characteristic of the M8? My TC shakes MUCH more at idle but then smooths out with RPM, where the M8 gets it all the way up through the rev range. Something about "the motor was too smooth, so artificial vibration was engineered in" or something like that.

Your issues make me worried about using this as a base to build off this winter.
