[1980tourglide]

Hi, im new to the site. I have a 1980 flt tourglide shovelhead, trying to put it back on the road. This is my first Harley. My question is, is the oil bath for chain, primary, and engine oil all connected. Can I change all the fluids by draining the oil tank, or are they separate? How do I change oil in primary, and chain bath if not connected? Any info will be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance.

Welcome from Florida. I personally have no knowledge of the 80 engine, but I'm pretty sure the engine and primary are separate. You might want to Google it, or also check HD Forums, a few gentlemen over there with older bikes and knowledge.

Absolutely first priority is to buy a service manual and follow the instructions. Nothing beats the "book". Every tech tip given should be verified by the service manual. Once you know how to do it right, then you can modify the procedure for the circumstances.
