I was on my way up to Daytona when suddenly, she begins to stumble on me. It feels almost like it shuts off for a fraction of a second. I took it to a dealer in Daytona and the problem as usual did not replicate itself. It went away for awhile and on my way back home, it did it again. No codes, no check engine light...NOTHING... but it is STILL DOING IT! HELP!!!

In this months American Iron mag guy had the same problem on his 08 - the editor didn't think it was the throttle because that would set a code in the ECM but might be a problem with the wiring to the kill switch. Saying a loose connection would make the ECM think the switch was turned off. No fault code would be triggered. Check the wiring and the voltage drop across the kill switch. Also said that if you are running a Power Commander it might be bad since they over heat and break down. There's a separate fix for that if you have a PC let me know. :cool:

:mad: I brought the bike into my local shop. The shop comes with very high recomendations due to their fabrications for dragsters. Anyways... I was informed that my ECU was just reflashed and that I never had a EFM installed. He suggested to install a power commander and that would solve the problem. All wiring was OK. Although, I still have to fork-out 700 bills:eek: for all the parts and labour. What do you think?

Parts and labor for what? What they have done so far, or for the solution they offered, i.e. EFM and install?

Many of of the EFM's are plug and play, so not sure if ya need to pay a bunch of labor $$$'s for the install. That depends on your wrenching abilities... I am not a wrench at all, so I won't say, it's easy. I haven't gone down this road myself--yet!

A)Well, a new PCV w/AT is about $7 bills - labor would be about 30 minutes unless they also dyno-tune your ride - then $7 bills would be about par. I don't understand the part about not having an EFM installed - unless you did a bunch of upgrades (pipes and air) you shouldn't need an EFM.

B)If you had your ECM (ECU) flashed because you did upgrades - that should have been enough. I just think your indy is trying to get $700 out of you.

C)If you really do need an EFM you can do it yourself and buy one cheaper from eBay or whatever.

D) None of the above.

When my engine blew-up with the stage 3 kit the dealer for warranty purposes bust me down to a stage 2 with an ECM reflash. Since the stumbling, my indie guy recommended I install a EFM and dyno-tune due to it being the right way. I hope I'm doing the right thing?:eek:

Absolutely...if you want it done right to get the most hp/tq out of your engine then an EFM and dyno-tuning are the ticket (if done properly) - ONLY IF - you have done a lot of work to your engine, ie, cams, new jugs, & stage II A/C & exhaust. HOWEVER, if you only have the stage II A/C and exhaust you should/will be able to install the PC III or PCV with the supplied parameters, usually on a CD, for your bike's modifications yourself. I ain't no wrench either but I did the V&H FuelPak with no problem at all. You can pick up a PCIII for less than $300. I like that idea!:) But what if I have the jugs changed from an 88 to a 95 stroker. Can I still use the PCIII? I remember that they had changed the jugs and cams on it when the engine blew.

You can still use the same PCIII. Just re-dyno it at a shop with certified dyno techs. Also, any time I see a stumbling problem like you described, I check the wires at the battery. They can get just a little loose and make all sort of weird things happen.

Thanks guys, but I know for a fact it wasn't my battery terminals. After I went to my first shop to have it checked out, I saw with my own eyes the tech torque down those terminals and the problem still reproduced itself.:mad:
I opted to get a PC installed and Dyno Tuned, I found a few bucks laying around the house. I'll let you know how it turned out. Thanks again!

Update

Here is the up date; the power commander was installed and still gave the stumbling, but now the stumbling ocurs between 2.75-3.1 rpm in every gear with a load. Once you give it fuel, you don't feel it as much but it is still there.:mad:

My tech is going to veryfy the crank sensor/cam sensor and hope it comes out ok:eek:

I got a call today and got bad news:mad:, she is still stumbling. My tech got it to make a code and it came up being the TPS, when he changed it out, the code was gone but it still stumbled between 2700rpm-3100rpm with a 25lb load in every gear. All fuel preasure at 55lbs all the way, he's going to check out the injectors, but he told me that he never had a bad injector. He is also noticed that the bike was running "fat". Not all fuel was being burned off properly. When tried to remap the ECU it wouldn't budge. He has a feeling that it might be a faulty ECU that needs to get reflashed. :confused: I don't know anymore... I want her to run perfect, is that too much to ask for?

Here's one more thought...( i know it hurt me too) hows the plug wires? their cheap enough to replace for good measure.

Well... he finally got it right. It was the TPS that was faulty. After entering the PC, it looked like as if the ECU had to relearn what it had. NO MORE STUMBLE. I need some more answers as to why it did what it did.
