hows everyones transmissions holding up? mine has been making a whining noise last 1000 ams or so,changed this winter and had about 15000 km since then, went to drain it and oil came out backer then my motor oil,i put new fluid in,rode 1200 km and drained this morning, black as hell again, put in 1/2 litre brake fluid and 1/2 litre of amsoil tranny oil, jacked bike up and ran in first for 2-3 minutes, shut her off and drained the oil, again very black but this time small tin like looking pieces are coming out,its going to buddys shop in the morning so we can pull it apart.

what I'm looking for is anyone else's experience with tranny failure,my buddy is saying that since the 6spd went to helical gears the metal and bearing there using are shit, with that being said he's un aware of aftermarket parts besides better bearings, what have others done?

I'm at 43K and was just told that my bearing is going. It's making noise and there were metal shavings in the tranny fluid. Sounds like we have the same thing going on. Guess I'll look into an upgraded bearing too.

My 08 tranny been holding up fine with nearly 100,000 miles. I been using either Mobil 1 75w140 or Valvoline 75w140 full synthetic gear lube since the bike was new. When I did the last tranny fluid change a few weeks ago there was hardly anything on the drain plug magnet and the fluid looked as if it was new.
I think HD changed bearing suppliers in 09 and there has been more tranny issues in the 09 to 13 models because of the change. Also it is my belief that using 20w50 motor oil is the worse things you could do to the transmission beside running the transmission with no oil.
Don't get me wrong I don't believe that my transmission will last forever but using good gear lube and proper maintenance and not beating on the tranny will prolong it's life expectancy. JMO

main bearing clunk clunk clunk, side door bearings same thing, hard to spin by hand when pressed out of door, shift forks worn thru hardening and worn, hence bad colour and then theres bearings on the mains haft between the shaft and gear, the races are plastic, one of those came apart, bearing still intact but plastic bits running around, cleaned up putter back together,700 bucks maybe get thru the rest of season, lol i run amsoil 75/90 i believe it is,for trans

The 75w90 should work well in the tranny but even if you run good gear lube it won't keep inferior bearings from failing it will just prolong the inevitable. Are you using OEM bearings or are you installing upgraded bearings?

69k on my 2012 with no issues so far. Problem with gear lube on the newer tranny is the tolerances are tighter so using a heavier fluid causes premature wear
