Hey all,

I keep going back and forth on if I want to get a Madstad. I keep reading allot of good things about them, and the price IS a little high but I can justify that over buying 4 or more. The only thing keeping me away is the look. Call me anal I know... I want good looks and comfort for me and Lesley.

Any way to help sway me one way or the other?

If Happy Dan want a happy ride ? Buy a Madstad, if HappyDan wants to just look cool , then don't.

I've tried pretty much every windshield out there...Madstsd is by far the best performer of you're trying to get rid of the buffeting. I don't mind the look...as the performance is second to none. I'd definitely recommend his product without hesitation. Outstanding engineering and construction. ??

I would think there would be a decent amount of used ones out there with the change of style. I know I have one but I think one of my buddies is buying it (it's the older one with the metal back plate and the original hardware). Check around, see if you can find a cheap used one. If not, personally it was the last of many shields that I put on my bike and I was happy with it. Having said that, I'm not sure that I could convince myself to put one on the 2017. I have zero issues with the '17 anyway in regards to buffeting etc

Haha!! Dully noted! I love the look of the small (useless) black one that comes on it. Just not good for anything but around town riding. A little taller would be good though....:grin:

Thanks for the words.

I have been watching for a used one for about a year. As soon as they go up for sale - they are sold very quickly.

I have seen one in person so far, and it was really tall. If I saw one in person might push me one way or the other. I do see more and more people here buying and installing them and only reason I see people selling them is when they get a new bike. I have not seen any reviewers getting rid of it cause they hated it. I know the wife hates to look of the RGC as it is. So adding a Madstad would really up the "ugly" factor for her!!!

They are only UGLY if you don't own one and see it on other bikes. Lol I thought the same thing until I bought one and installed over a year ago. I love mine. BTW...last week I decided to remove the Madstad and put my Windvest shield back on (I loved it as one time). I took a ride and let me tell you, it came off and the Madstad was right back on. The Madstad is adjustable and get rid of the wind buffeting.

Good luck

You spend a week behind one and you will never switch back.

As for the look, it is different, but if you go with a clear screen, it not like it can really be seen from a distance. And as far as ugly goes, it's not as bad as a tall look through screen on a Roadie.

The only complaint I have is the need to clean the bugs off the rear side. The air flow under the screen is such that some of them get plastered on the back. On the bright side, you can use Meguiar's glass cleaner on it, so the bugs come right off. It's got a real hard coating on it.

It comes down to this. Do you want maximum rider comfort? Or do you want to look like everyone else when it's parked?

I've been looking at one for a few months now but haven't bit the bullet. Do you mount the Madstad on the stock windshield? I very rarely ride at night and can't decide on what tint level (dark grey or extra dark grey). I'm 6'6" tall but I sit lower on my La Pera seat so do you go with the 14.5" or 16" screen. Being up in Canada little bit harder to ship back and forth if you get the wrong size/color.

It mounts where the factory one mounts to now. So you remove the factory one and you install the mount. The windshield mounts to that. So the mount is fixed but the screen can be moved around with adjustment.

As for color, that is your pick. The web site has pics. This is one of my hangups too. I like the dark black but not sure about not being able to look thru it when needed. I would be looking for the 13". I have a 14" windvest that I got a deal on and I hate the look. It is clear. I like colored screens.
Vain I know....lol

I was planning on getting multiple shields of different heights than I found out about the MadStad. I got the extra dark grey. If you like looking though the shield I do not recommend that shade. It is at least as dark as "limo" car window tint. I'm 5'8" got the 11" for 15 RG. I read due to the fairing changes it's about like a 13" on the older. I choose that tint to help with on coming headlights, which it does just not as much as I hoped. Looking at it from a distance looks solid black which is great on vivid black. Got the quick detach bracket so I can ride with just the base plate.

I have one that I bought from a forum member, was going to mount it on my 10, but then I bought a 16, now the 17, I never even opened the box, for all I know there could be paper weights in there, lol. Terrible I know. Guess I should open it. Probably put it back for sale, kind of seems that I won't be using it, I don't remember if it's supposed to be the new or old style.

Don't get dark black if you go over 11". If you are taller than 5'9", get the 13" or 14" dark Grey.

I am 5'9". So by the site, I was thinking I needed the 13". Sucks is, the site has measurements, but not how far above the radio. That measurement would tell me allot.

Maybe I need to study the web site more than looking at the pictures....

Dan, I am 5'10" with short legs (29" inseam), I have a clear 13" Madstad and it works great. The height and angle are adjustable, so I think it'll work well for you. Adjust it a little higher when the spousal unit is riding with you and lower it a little when solo.
