Hey all. Being a new Road Glide Special owner I am unsure what the average mileage is for these models. I know what the factory says usually isn't accurate but this being my 4th tank of gas, to me is seems a bit low.

I have burned about 2/3 of a tank and have gone 120 miles. Most of that is in town. I have a stage one and sometimes ride like a bat out of hell.

Just curious if this is right or not.

That sounds bad. I have a 103 with standard six speed (2013 RGU). I get 240 miles per tank solidly. I average 42.0 mpg you must really be getting on it

I average between 40 - 45. Depends on my right hand. I have an '11 with stage 1.

I don't think "about 2/3" is accurate enough to say much. That's 4 gallons and 30mpg, but then again it might be 3.5 gallons for 34 mpg, which might make since with you getting on in constantly.

Your figures are useless. Set a trip meter to 0 next time you FILL the tank. When you stop for gas in xxx miles, FILL the tank again. Divide the gallons pumped into xxx miles. That figure is your mpg.

I usually ride between 75 and 80 MPH and consistently get 38-40 mpg on my 2013RGU 103 bone stock with Rush big louie's slip ons

If you are heavy handed and in stop and go traffic then lower MPG is normal. I get 30-35mpg when I'm by myself and having fun. When group riding I get 50 on my 09 FLTRSE3 and 45 on my 15 FLTRUSE.

With the weather warming up here I should start getting better mileage. On this last tank I was right at 200 miles before my fuel light came on stating 30 miles to empty. The thing that annoys me is that I wish the fuel gauge was more accurate. I will get 80+ miles on my first 1/4 tank and then a total of 200 for the whole tank.

A fuel gauge using a float & sending unit - whether it's in a car or motorcycle - isn't a calibrated measuring device. They are mostly inaccurate.
The gauge itself relies on current heating a bimetallic strip to move the needle. Some cars use a microprocessor... but I'm guessing Harleys do not.

Once you understand how they work, you should be impressed with their accuracy. ;-)

My 79 Wing had a wildly inaccurate fuel gauge. Once the trip meter got past 100 miles, it would randomly add to the hundreds column. I used to stop for fuel between 2 and 4 hundred miles. Thank God for reserve

For the most part I ignore the fuel gauge. That & the range (r) are but general indicators.
I reset a trip odometer when filling up and once it gets north of 200 I'm ready to stop. I have no desire to ride until it's on fumes.

Ok... So I stopped to fill up yesterday when I was at 1/4 of a tank and put 4.254 gallons in. Looking at my odometer I went 142.2 miles.

Doing the math if 142.2/4.254 = 33.427

So right now with the engine being >500 miles broke in and with a stage 1 (along with me riding like a bat out of hell) I'm getting a little over 33 miles a gallon. Which isn't as bad as I thought.

Get it tuned, mileage will be 39-40.

I rode yesterday and got 39.3 mpg at 80+mph on a full tank.

And the new gauges since MoCo added the "time till empty" are regulated by the ecm. I have had times when I am in a headwind and the gauge reads half then change course and the gauge will go almost to 3/4. it reads based on your current MPG.

2015 FLTRXS 19,125 miles and my average is at 40 MPG, my light comes on at about 205

I'm getting a tiny bit less than 40 on average on my 2015 FLTRXS. Fully loaded or not it seems.
I can get 42 backroads and gentle. Hammer fistin' it will drop it down to 32. Remember, it's a High Output 103 so it's gonna be gas happy.
Ride it for a while, do what you're doin' (checking it like you are) and you'll get a better feel for it. Your miles ridden divided by gallons is gonna give you your best reading over time/conditions.

Rode almost 400 miles yesterday at average speed of 70 mph and I got 41 mpg.
