I just ordered a set of chizeled lo bars and will be installing myself when they get here. I've watched the YouTube videos and read on here how to properly remove the ignition. However, the fork stays locked once the ignition is removed. I also read that there is an alignment tool to unlock the forks. Well I tried to remove the ignition from the off position and it worked fine. Plus the forks didn't lock. Will doing it from the off position hurt anything? Is it supposed to do this?

Too late, but there is no need to remove the switch. The chrome piece under it lifts off leaving a space large enough to work the speedo housing over it. Major improvement.

Does gas tank need removed to get plate off from under fork lock switch?
No tank removal is needed to get off but with switch in it is easy to break the tap.I just took mine off in off also did the bar change. Then put the switch back and it wouldn't come on.I turned it full lock and it all lined up then when i tried it came on.I got lucky i guess.
