Well my rain vehicle, 2004 Mitsubishi Evo 8, finally broke on me 140k. So, I will be rebuilding the motor, but need a beater car in the meantime.

I decide it will be quicker to turn my drag car to my daily. My 1972 Datsun 240z has been in hibernation for over 3 years. Let's say the gas smells horrible, so off comes the Carb and fuel lines. Flushing cooling system, and going over the motor before starting.

Since she will see daily use, going to sound and heat insulate the interior, and ordered new street tires (R-Compunds are chorded, and not rain usable).

Anyways, here is the start of the rebirth.
Forgot I had an extra fuel cell.

There is varnish build up in ther metering blocks, and the gaskets are baked on. Going to let the whole thing soak in cleaner for a day.

While waiting, I decided to put sound deadening, and heat deflectors. But there is rust, so Por-15 to the rescue.

And passenger side is done.

There have been rumors floating around that the next Z car might have more of a 240 look to it. If so, I might be real tempted. I prefer modern classics over actual classics since I would rather drive/ride than work on them.

I love those old Datsuns. My old room mate and I used to build and part these cars for years, including building a convertible. Ford Cobra motor / 6 speed, Triumph rear deck lid, BMW convertible roof, lots of steel reinforcing, tucked bumpers, 350Z rotors/wheels, Japanese tails, and airplane seat belts to stop you from going side to side when the car does.

I drove a 260z for over 10 years. Enjoyed that car. Kept a jug of water behind the seat to pour over the fuel pump when it vapor locked 😊

Love the newer ones too! The newest I saw has more HP but still has early 2000 interior gouges and last of phone connectivity.

Got to work on her some more tonight.

Finished the driver side and transmission tunnel. Doubled up the tunnel and under each seat (my mufflers are under each seat).
Still waiting on parts. Will probably clean up all the wiring and start insulation in hatch area.
