The part number is 273-0079, and was $5.49. The factory security module has a plug to allow connection to the HD siren. I just tinned the two leads from the siren, and inserted them into the first two slots shown on the plug in the photo. Then I taped it up with electrical tape to see if it worked.

It chirps when you turn off the main power switch to the bike (at the same time the lights flash to indicate the system is armed). It alos then starts chirping a warning when the bike is moved (sounds a few times and then goes off full tilt).

I haven't left it on long enough to seee when it resets (it's pretty loud and I have neighbors), but I assume it operates the same as the flashing lights, they flash for a while and then reset.

Here's a picture of where the plug sits (under the left side cover) for adding the siren, and the plug itself.

I just wanted to add a little to this very good post for clarification...I did this yesterday... works very well. Loud too. Before doing this pull the main fuse. I have a 09 RG.
Red wire from siren goes to the brown wire on the Harley plug, and the black wire from the siren goes to the green wire on the plug. I just used a soldering iron to tin the siren leads to give them body to insert into the Harley plug. The Harley plug has 2 rows of pins, use the rows that do not have the metal visible when you are looking at the plug... look at it and you will see what I'm talking about. One row is connected to the wires on the back of the plug and the other is not. Once you get the wires inserted I then wrapped some electrical tape around the plug to keep the wires in place and re-inserted the plug back into the female receptacle on the chassis molding where it was originally stored. I drilled out the mounting holes on the siren to accommodate a wire tie(plastic zip tie) and secured it place where the OEM siren would go.
It chirps to warn you a couple of times and then goes off for about 20 seconds, then resets itself. If your Radio shack is like mine, the employees do not know what your are asking for and even after looking up the part number to confirm they had some, did not know where to find them. They are in the metal cabinets with sliding drawers. Easy.. good mod. --Bill

Bill,

Thanks for filling in the details! This is a simple mod, and I'm thinking I might go back and see if I can squeeze another siren in the same spot, for just a bit more noise.

I had to mount my second RS alarm under the seat, toward the fender. When it goes off, you can hear it couple of hundred feet away. Of course you would have to mount the bike and tilt it or try and start it without your key fob dohicus for it to go off. When you get off your bike it does "chirp" loud enough for you to tell it is armed. I like that.

Guys you can go by the Harley shop and get the end plug and either male or female pins that are needed. Not sure of the cost ( will be more than the cost of the siren) but it will be more permanent and also be water resistant. Thats two things I definitely want. But this is a great idea and will have one on soon.

Well, I added another to my bike yesterday... stereo sirens ha ha. I mounted the first in the OEM designated location, and the second under the seat, in front of the battery on the right side. Zip tied it to the frame. It is much louder now. While the wire inserted in the plug and taped down is "okay", I will go and check out the Harley plug and pins, it would comforting to have this connection secure, I don't like doing mickey mouse things with my bike.
Best Regards, --Bill

I have not personally tried to water test this device, but my understanding of the Piezoelectric speaker is that it is a simple solid state device that is not affected by water. If it gets wet... dry it out and it should continue to work.
There does seem to be an application of the Piezoelectric speaker being used in underwater applications. "Piezoelectric speakers can have extended high frequency output, and this is useful in some specialized circumstances; for instance, sonar applications in which piezoelectric variants are used as both output devices (generating underwater sound) and as input devices (acting as the sensing components of underwater microphones)."

Where I have mine mounted they will not get subjected to much water, if they become a problem due to this specific application, I guess I'm out the $5.49 I paid times 2. No problems thus far... and not expecting any.:D --Bill

I went to the Harley shop and the very kind folks in the parts department spent about 30 minutes trying to find the connector that will plug in to the siren pig tail. NO LUCK. We discussed cutting the pig tail off and using a different set of connectors, but since I have an 09, I did not want to possibly jeopardize my warranty. If there is a connector, I'd very much appreciate the part number.
For now I will leave it alone until I can get to Radio Shack and get a pin to insert into the pig tail. Regards... --Bill

In this particular instance the best and easiest way to connect two wires together without using a soldering iron or some kind of a plug in is to use an automotive type "clip". Using this clip you lay one colored wire on one side of the clip and the one you want to tie it together with in the other side of the clip. Once the wires are in place, you fold over the top part of the clip and it "clips" throught the insulation and connects the two wires together. There is no soldering or taping of wires involved. The whole clip is less than the size of a postage stamp and is slick as boiled owl feces. Auto parts stores carry them in for around $3.00/pkg of six. I put two on my bike over a year ago. I used a dab of silicon to mount them to frame and then a zip tie for good measure. They have worked flawlessly and are there for the duration. The thing I appreciate the most is that when I get off the bike, the sirens "chirps" once to let me know the system is armed.

I know what your referring to, and have used these and others like them as a last resort. These have worked well for me too.
I just wanted to do it in a more professional way. --Bill
