Adding Speakers to Rushmore Tour Pak

Have a 17 RGS with the 6.5 GTS boom box. Last summer I added a HD 14+ tour pak and the first thing my wife said was "Now I can get speakers." I know most everyone on here is adding amps and speakers or replacing the head unit. That is not what I am asking about. Trying to do this low cost because Audio is 3rd in order of big upgrades. Also trying to do it in a way that doesn't preclude future upgrades.

I looked at adding lid speakers but am not really happy with the thought of cutting up my lids or loosing the area beneath the magnets on my lids.

Speaker pods on the tour pak seem to be the best option. I found the Harley part #76000505 which includes the pod and wiring harness. It kind looks like if you put this on, toss in your speakers (Thinking about Rockford Fosgate TMS65) and get your stock radio flashed she will have her speakers. Has anyone done this? Am I thinking about this correctly? All the upgrades talk about amps but I don't see that the Ultra has an extra amp and that makes me think the 6.5 GTS can drive the four speakers just fine.

Long term I want to add the Rockford Fosgate HD14-TKIT system but for now am hoping to run the stock system so that I can do exhaust and suspension first.

Assuming that you have the King tourpak, you're on the right track. The only difference between your head unit and an Ulta is the flash and the wiring to the tourpak. No extra amps or anything out of the ordinary until you get to the CVOs. Ultras dont even come standard with the CB anymore. So it should be as simple as you laid it out.

But. I've been known to be wrong about things.

Yeah. It’s the king. The wife who wants speakers isn’t gonna pack in a chopped pak! Lol! Gonna check with the dealer Tuesday but they don’t know half the time either.

On my 11 RGU. The wife heard the front speakers more than the tourpak speakers. She said she could barely hear them so when I was buying the new bike I mentioned another Ultra and the TP and speakers. Her comment was she hated the tourpak and the speakers were worthless. Lol. YMMV on that. But I do know when I was alone riding I'd play with the sound and she was right IMO. If I didn't turn my ear towards them. I couldn't hear a thing. And the speakers were upgraded. No amp. @08Zinc may chime in. It was his bike first.

It's been said many times before. Do it right the first time and don't throw good money after bad.

My wife doesn't ride, so I can't comment on sound for a passenger. On my 2015, I added good amp and speakers in fairing lowers.

I've done it. It's pretty easy. Just be ready to cut and drill....A LOT on your new tour pak. Run the harness to the front and plug it in. If you want rear fader control you'll need to get the flash, but if your not worried about they will work without. I can hear the rear speakers fine as long as I have the radio set more to the rear speakers. If you want to add lights or anything else when you do the pods then would be the time.

Yeah, Thinking I will put a CD truflex 3 section light bar on the back that is under the rear lip for running, brake, signal, not crazy about putting the big HD light on their. Thinking I can do it in a more custom, slick look. Won't be doing it at the same time probably. Cash flow is tough right now, although I could wait a bit to instal the speakers.

That's the plan. Pick things that can be used now and will work with the upgrade. I really like the convenience of the Rockford Fosgate kit. It looks as if it will be a super slick instal. Looking some more this morning I may go with some Polk Audio DB 652s in the back. They get good reviews, except for the covers and are an amazing cost.

I just put a small CD run/brake light. Didn’t feel the need to have turns on it.

Is that a smoke lenses too? Remember the part number? Looks about the same size as the reflector on the truck of the wifes freewheeler. I want to put a light there. That looks almost the same exact size.

Yes it is smoked. I don't know if they still have it or not. I've had it for about 6 years. They call it a Knight Riderz, but I couldn't find it on there web page. It's close to LB02-22, but mine is just a run/brake, no flashing or side to side or anything. Just a plane light.

Thanks. That's exactly what I want. I'll see if I can find it.
