Getting ready for a road trip through Adirondacks, along St. Lawrence Seaway on route to Montreal. I'd like to outfit my FLTRX RGC with a chopped or other lower profile tour pack that has running lights or brake lights.

What do I need to get for this setup? I know I need a 4 point mount bracket, and detachable tour pack support. Do tour packs with lights come with wiring needed to integrate with existing FLTRX wiring for the rear light bar, or do I need to buy something separately? How is the wiring run to keep it hidden??

Trying to decide OEM or aftermarket. I prefer pre-painted, given my trip plans. Is Mutazu a good quality choice for a Vivid Black match, or should I bite the bullet and get OEM?

Any options you'd recommend, such as latches, hinges, tethers, liners, locks, etc??

Thanks!!

I don't think the HD chopped pack comes with any light options. You could add a lid spoiler with light. Thinking you will need some type of module to get run and brake lights on a tour pack as your RGC has left and right brake/turn circuits. Add a single brake light to either one and it will flash when that turn signal is used otherwise. Premium hinges and latches, retractable tether and a lock system for the detach hardware are all nice to have.

I made the tour pak on my Ultra detachable, which is easily done with the adapter kit that the MoCo sells. It's basically a set of wires and quick disconnects that you add into the existing wiring harness to the tour pak, which your Custom doesn't have.

You can easily add a run/brake/turn module into the rear light harness. There is a factory version and some aftermarket ones I think as well. I think it goes into the connection under the seat where the wiring goes into the rear fender. Then you could run the new line back along the side of the fender rails and add a quick disconnectfor when you want to remove the tour pak.

But I don't really think you need to go to the trouble. The stock Road Glide Ultra only has the side running lights. I have no more lights on the back of my bike with the tour pak on as I do without it. If you're only going to use it occasionally, and you're not putting speakers on it, just run the bare tour pak.

Four point detachable mount allows you to add and remove. Mine is set up this way and it works quite well. I only instal it for touring.

The Mutazu black matches well and is nice for the price. Order the tour pack stiffening plate from Harley. The Mutazo is set up for the older style mounts so you need to measure carefully and put a few spacers in to get it level. not hard but considering the price difference was wworth the effort to me. Do a search for Mutazu install and you will find some information.

Order the delux hinges and latches... look better and are of higher quality.

As for the lighting. there is a grey plug under your seat that allows plug and play for your break and running lights. Do some google searches and you will find it.

Good luck

Thanks guys...Some excellent advice and info provided in each one of your posts. I definitely want the chopped profile for a tour pack and expect to use it 1-2 times per year...until I retire, that is.

I didn't realize that lights aren't an standard option integrated into the chopped versions. I don't "need" brake lights, I just like added visibility, especially for long tours and cruising down the highway. Maybe a spoiler option or something similar for running lights is the ticket, which is attractive from the standpoint that I can add that upgrade later.

What are the sources for best price if I decide to go OEM?? Do dealers typically have tour packs in stock? I'd think it would be costly to maintain an inventory of painted ones in stock, but on the other hand, Vivid Black is pretty common.

Are the OEM premium latches and hinges compatible on Mutazu versions? How close to OEM appearance-wise is Mutazu? I'll have to research the products that provide proper fit for Mutazu and late model support hardware, as well as the stiffening plate from Harley.

After tallying the cost and quality factors, I'll get on with my choice. Thanks so much for the good advice, and appreciate any other comments.

I'll do a search and see if I can find the light bar on my tour pack. It will work on a chopped as well. It is so small you don't even know it's there till the lights are on, but it is a very bright LED. I bought my tour pack used with it already on there so I don't recall the manufacturer, but I will see if I can find it.

Well I found out what my light bar is but apparently after doing a search they are out of business. It was from a company called "Ride Time Technology". Damn shame cause it is a nice product.

If you go HD check with pcpain here on the forum. I don't believe dealers stock them. Ordered mine when I bought the bike and it was 6 weeks for candy orange.

If you don't really need any lights for the tour pack but do want added visibility check out options from Custom Dynamics. I added their stick-on (with 3M adhesive strips, 2 years and they haven't come unglued, looks like a factory light) center LED tail light for the RGC and SG. Yes, you do have to drill a small hole in your fender to run the wire through but of course that is covered up by the light itself. And it is plug & play cause you plug it into the unused connector under your left side cover. And damn is that LED run & brake light ever bright! And you still have the two original round red lights that are still run & brake and turn plus the tribar run light at the bottom. So, the two original and add on LED are run and when you brake you still have the two round original lights as well as the CD LED add on. Check their website for a demo and also a short installation video. I don't turn many wrenches but I was able to add the LED light with no problems.
