Hey everyone, Looking to add speaker lids to my bike. Dont know if I should go with the Harley 5x7 lids, or go with an aftermarket lid. looking for anyone using the Hogtunes lids for the 14/15 Model saddlebags. would like to go with a 6x9 but want to see if anyone has any fitment issues or input on other lids. the nes model Hogtunes lids look pretty nice, kinda stearing that direction. cost is going to be about the same, maybe alittle less, with having to have them painted.
suggetions would be Great!

I have hogtunes. Never heard of any concerns with fitment or more importantly, water leakage. They are canted slightly toward the rider to aid in hearing them at speed as well. Good luck with whatever you choose.

I went with cheapies from Mutazu off ebay. They come painted in vivid black. Not the best paint job they had some very small flaws. you aslo can't use your stock cloth tether ( I made one from paracord). The last issue is they dont come with a gasket. I went to Auto Zone and bought some. I chose to go cheap on the lids to go balls on the system. Good Luck!

I went with these guys from Chris Lowe on the garage Bagger Facebook page. They are an eight inch Digital Designs marine grade woofer with a horn tweeter. Should be here next Tuesday I will let everyone know how the fit and finish is as well as how good they sound?

I have 6x9 speaker lids from Cali biker club off of ebay. Cost me about $174 shipped for unpainted lids. I believe Laxinharley got the same ones in vivid black for literally a few dollars more. Fitment is great and they take stock HD hardware and are not flimsy at all. Now mine do have a leak issue but its MY fault because I didn't use anything to seal between the speaker and lid. I will be doing that this winter though. I would recommend this lids no problem.

We've been fortunate to sell a good number of the Hog Tunes Speaker Lids, both with and without the speakers included, and have received great feedback with them. That being said, I'm sure you'd be happy with either these lids or the Harley-branded ones so it will ultimately come down to which style suites your tastes / budget better.

Hope this helps!!

Thanks for everyones input. still a big decision to make. Seetiggergo, Ive seen that the pre 14's do come without speakers. but havent seen the 14/15 models come without. can you point me in the right direction on them with out the speakers for the 14/15 models? really want to go with the 6x9 speakers. bigger = better. send me a link or something. I really want to make sure that they fit well. I do use the saddlebags, so I dont want to lose space in the bag, Last, dont know much about the speakers that come with the lids, running the HCX speakers in the fairing, and would like to use the 6x9 models in my lids. just to make sure that they have great sound. using a Diamond audio Micro4v2 amplifier, right now the gain/sensitivity level is aprox 2/3 rds up and sounds really good, and around 100HZ on the crossovers, thats on the front. in the Rears its around 1/3rd and same on the crossovers on the tourpack, using the Boom stage 1 speakers. Thanks for all of you guys help. I love this Foum. as much as I love my bike. LOL

You are most certainly welcome for the input...as you mentioned, this is a great forum filled with great folks eager to help answer any questions you may have about your new Road Glide.

As for the Hog Tunes Speaker Lids for 2014+ models...to be honest, I'm not really sure why they only offer these with the speakers unlike the pre-2014s. I know that we personally sell more of the pre-2014s without the speakers since most of these folks already have a particular set in mind that they prefer to use. That being said, it is certainly possible that they will start offering these at somepoint but that's just speculation at this point.

As for other Lids that do not include speakers...we also offer the Bad Dad Competition Speaker Lids (link below) which do come in both configurations. In my opinion, these are a very sharp looking lid and I like that there is the option of getting LED lights for either added visibility or to use as a replacement to the OEM tail lights. The only downside with these particular bags in your instance is that the largest speaker you would be able to put in them are 5x8". However, their Lids that include speakers come with 5x7" J&M ROKKER Speakers that sound put out a lot of sound.

btw...if these are of any interest to you, shoot me a message so we can discuss further.

Last, dont know much about the speakers that come with the lids, running the HCX speakers in the fairing, and would like to use the 6x9 models in my lids. just to make sure that they have great sound. using a Diamond audio Micro4v2 amplifier, right now the gain/sensitivity level is aprox 2/3 rds up and sounds really good, and around 100HZ on the crossovers, thats on the front. in the Rears its around 1/3rd and same on the crossovers on the tourpack, using the Boom stage 1 speakers.
WOW...sounds like you've got LOTs of audio power on your Glide as is!! lol While I have never personally heard the Hog Tunes Lids that come with their 6x9s, I've heard nothing but positive feedback in terms of sound. I'm sure there are several folks on the forum who are using them so it might be beneficial to search some of the past posts to see what you can find.

Hopefully this helps but certainly let me know if you have any other questions.

Would you happen to have a pic of your lids. I too have considered these but never seen them in person or heard any reviews of them.

Can you help me with this install, as I just got them and they do not have instructions or photos.

Right now I assembled the speaker adapter to the inside of the lid, I see it it only has 3 anchor points and leaves one corner of the adapter loose and a big gap between the lid and adapter. I am sure its going to rattle and leak and sound like crap.

My question is, does this point get anchored when the OEM HD hardware is installed? Right now I cant see how this corner gets anchored.

Thanks.

I ended up returning the Mutazu lids. The finish was fine, the vivid black matched almost perfect. I returned them because I did not like the way the adapter held in place and positioned the 6x9's and it looked like it was going to be very difficult to make them watertight. I am going to order a set of Hogtunes lids.

We've had a lot of folks go with the Hog Tunes lids that are very happy with them. I think you will like them as well, whether you go with a set with speakers or get a speaker-less set to install your own speakers in. Either way, you'll be happy with them.

Best wishes!!
