Shrug, as Swomack said, Thanks for sharing with "all of us". Best I remember I originally came across this video shortly after helping my father transition to the other side, which would have been spring of '15. Had to start caring for mom right after that and wondered if it would ever happen; came across your video and was amazed and just
"knew" that if I didn't get my "dreamtrip" ride in I would regret it forever. Spring of '16 my wife says to me; "boy, you're not getting any younger, you have a new bike, and right now I can handle mom all by myself, next year all of that might change; go take your trip". 2.5-3 weeks later I was on the road!! Thought about this video often but couldn't remember what it was called; glad it popped up here. I'll definitely watch it again, and again; thanks for sharing with all of us.

Hope your dream comes true

Man, did I enjoy that! Thank you for sharing a lot of personal stuff. That was truly inspiring. Makes that dream trip of mine of riding to Sturgis look like child's play.
If it's your "dreamtrip", it will be just as special and memorable. Life is way too short and after reading about a 28 yr. old HD mechanic who was taken out by a drunk driver on superbowl sunday earlier today it's just a reminder; tomorrow is not promised to any of us. I hope and pray that you get your dreamtrip in this year elbohead. And please start a thread and post plenty of pics so we can all enjoy. I'll try to add a pic from my dreamtrip as motivation. Best of luck and God's mercy to you.

Hey Shrug,I came across your original video over 5 years ago and it helped inspire me to make the same trip to Alaska, something I had been talking about doing for years. When I traded in my softail for a Road Glide Ultra in the fall of 2011,it was too late in the year to make that trip up there so I waited till the summer of 2012 to make my move.I rode from NYC out west and toured some of the western states before entering Canada from Montana.I pretty much took same route as you north through western Canada to Alaska. In Alaska I stayed in Tok,Fairbanks,Anchorage and Seward.Didn't go to the Arctic Circle since the Dalton hwy was extremely muddy at the time and that stuff is almost impossible to get off your bike lol. I didn't pack a tent and stayed in motels instead.I had too many close encounters with Grizzly and Black bears in Canada and Alaska,so I was probably better off I guess lol .Didn't take much video footage like you did but have lots of pictures and great memories.Did a total of 13000 miles in 3 weeks.Had an awesome adventure and the trip of a lifetime! Thanks Shrug for your inspiration!

Shrug, just watched the video for the first time. Awesome and thank you! Did a 2 week loop of the country last year with my wife and a friend. There's a love of riding that comes through in your video and we experienced. Was worried at start that I'd dread mounting the bike after a couple of weeks, but never got a touch of that. We've got another 2 weeker potential out there for this summer if life permits.

Anyway, congrats and thank you!

Awesome documentary! Would love to do this some day. I have watched yours and one other Texas guy and his movie. Truly an adventure. Glad to see the Harley made it when a lot of other people say you have to have an off road bike like a bmw. My vietnam purple heart veteran neighbor is bugging me to retire and go with him to Alaska. I have been researching a little bit and reading up on the "mile post." Just bought a RGU used. Never owned a HD before. Got to get some seat time before knowing my limitations on it. Not to much into doing all of the filming though, glad you did. Very awesome Shrug, thank you!

Thanks alot, man!
Retired or not, video or not - TAKE THE TRIP! The road into AK is much better now, so it's just a long scenically breathtaking ride. The road north from Fairbanks to the Circle is still sketchy, but plenty have done it on Harleys. Just plan plan plan and be flexible and you'll be fine. It's an accomplishment you'll always treasure.

I remember well all of us following the blog as you were making the trip , and all of of u waiting excitedly for the long anticipated video .. I cant tell how many times I have watched it , I still do every few months .. Then there was the much anticipated sequel that me and you and several others started planning , and one by one we all had to bail out .. I have been several times and still look forward to going again . My first time on a Harley was an adventure . In 1979 , the Alcan was nothing like it is now ..

Shrug,
When the time comes I hope Hester finds a place in a museum to share the stories you created together. You're an inspiration and I hope to shake your hand one day!

Really wish I could make it. Unfortunately I won't be able to get that many days off this year. A buddy and I are starting to discuss a trip to Anchorage next year though!

Anywhere in Alaska will be a great trip! It looks like Shark Week 8 will be in Colorado next year. That might make a good shakedown ride for Alaska prep! ;)
