I have read through many of the posts here on amps. I have stock Hu with j&m speakers. Go figure I have distortion at high volume. I'm looking for plug and play amp. I have the iron cross ipod interface, so not wanting to replace hu. Looking at hogtunes amp. I will be the first to tell you I'm an audio Moron. Cross over.. I don't even know what that is. So just looking for Guidence from people who know what they are talking about. I also see hogtunes requires wiring purchase and software update from dealer. Anyone have insite on the update? Thanks in advance to those who reply. I tried to answer my own questions from precious posts but had to write my own. Thanks

Ok, I can answer one question for you.....Crossover separates the low frequency's from the higher frequency's. That's about as far as I can help you, LOL Good lock on the other questions!

Plug and Play,....
Dont be intimidated by these adds for amps that have not what you want!
Power is what you want and basicly, all there is to it is pulln a plug from each side of ur speakers,...amp manufactors will supply a 'kit' with these wires that plug into ur speakers and then back to ur amp. All ya gotta do after that is find ur Ground wire hook up and run a Hot Wire to ur battery. Most amps have u run a Remote wire which is plugged into ur Cigarette lighter.
Believe Me if I can hook that up, anybody can!
What part of O-Hi-O u in brother?
Im in Fairfield and would be glad to help ya out.

I mount Vernon. Don't the J&m speakers have a third wire on them?? Going by memory in this. Just worried going to get an amp and have to cobble things together. Not what I want.

Well, adding an amp to an already screwed up system will only make it sound worse. I had the J&M setup for a few years and even with the amp, the distortion was still present when volume went up past about half. Changed out the head unit and holy cow things woke up. You want distortion free sound at higher volume? Lose the HK head unit. If you are hell bent on keeping the HK head unit, send it in to Iron Cross to get the pre-outs installed and then install an amp. Other than that, you're chasing a rabbit down a hole.

They pull the music signal to send to your amp before it gets distorted by the head units internal amp.

Your amp is going to amplify whatever signal it gets, good or bad. So if it's receiving a distorted signal your going to get a louder distorted sound from your amp.

Easy plug and play by specific J&M amp for your bike model. All wires and hardware included easy instructions to follow. Hawg wire also have plug and play amps but the wiring plug to the radio get bulky, can be PITA to get the front fairing on.
That will be my two choices for a easy plug and play novice installer. Both perform well. Since you got J&M speakers their amp comes tune no need to adjust gain if using their speakers.

Audio can be a real rat hole if you're not careful. Like repeatedly buying windscreens, people keep avoiding the obvious and spend needless time and money on inferior solutions until they give in and buy a MadStad. But I digress.

Consider the potential money and TIME spent fiddling with band aid audio fixes and just do it right. You don't pay $20k for a motorcycle and then shortcut the audio system. If quality audio is important enough to you that it needs improvement, then I recommend doing it right; once.

I like the stock head because it's rugged. Mine has traveled the worst imaginable roads and never failed. Also, it already works with the handlebar controls without buying a $250 interface cable. I had Iron Cross Audio install preamp inputs on mine through which I feed an Arc amp to drive Hertz speakers.

Hope this helps. Keep asking because there are some real audiophiles here who can advise you.

A non plug and play set up isn't that hard to do. Most of the plug and play amps won't have the adjustable crossover. The crossover is what u want. The Arc audio is a small clean powerful amp. You can still use your speakers you have. You can use the stock HK radio with the arc audio or like everyone said it will sound better with the iron cross mod. Just my 2 cents....
