Figured I could contribute as someone maybe wanting to do the same thing. As I was not a fan of the sound, I decided to upgrade and put my 590LM on as it was great on my last 6000 mile trip from Jax to Nova Scotia and so forth.
Amp: PBR300x4
Speakers: Polk DXi 6501 (Marine Ceritified)
GPS: Garmin 590LM
The whole process is fairing simple:
1. Remove the outer fairing (used video on youtube for 2015 RG)
2. Remove the headlamp assembly ( 4 bolts: 2 top and 2 bottom)
3. Remove the radio 4 bolts (same tool used in #2 works here)
4. Remove the subassembly that holds the speaker (6 screws same as tool for removing speaker)
Deciding on where to place the amp and component was the only thing i needed to figure out. I thought about making a bracket however I found an easier way. Just used industrial velcro and zip ties. The component crossover was velcro'd and zip tied left and right of the radio as I do not have the cb and xm components. No wires were cut during the whole process. For the 590LM I used the audio out to the aux in which is harley part number 69200907 and ran in down below the fairing heat shrink and zip tied.
The only thing left to do is:
Have the radio flashed for AUX ON rename to "Garmin 590LM"
Have the eq flashed to a flat curve per RockfordFosgate
Hopefully this helps someone else out.
