I did that. Looks like everything is in the clear. I've checked the 5A fuse as well and replaced it with a new one and still nada. I'm going to unclamped the handlebar again to inspect it one more time. But if you have any further/other suggestion, please let me know.

 

You flipped the right and left side handlebar control connections. They look the same and both fit. flip em around and I bet everything works.

 

The handlebar I installed for him is prewired. All I need was to snake the TBW portion of it.

 

 

What did the prewired handlebar manufacturer say when you called them?

 

Not sure you understand what I was telling you because prewired bars make no difference. Where the wires coming from the bar connect to the bike are two identical connections. One is left side bar mounted switches and one is right side bar mounted. They both use identical connections that are not labeled in any way. If you unplug them and flip them I bet your bike works and you are off and running.

Been there done that. I quickly found out the hard way when I was suffering the exact same issue.
It took 30 seconds, started it, and then proceeded to kick my own ass after I figured it out.

Also where they plug in make sure there's no bent pins. Just takes one

 

There's not much to the handlebars and it looks like you've checked just about everything. While a pain-in-the-ass, I would look closely at, and push the wires at every connector. A wire has backed out or a pin has been bent.

What’s interesting is he is having issues with BOTH controls so that would be both CANBUS wires. I would find it difficult to think one bad wire or pin would affect both sides. I’m going to be more inclined to say this may be a grounding issue.

 

That's a great point - ( even though having issues with both is still probable but unlikely)

Is there a common (shared) ground between the two? Knowing that location would be fantastic information.

 

Are the connectors at the switch packs seated good? I had one not seat right when I went to lighted controls and had to take the housings off the clutch side and reseat it again and all was fine.

Also did you check for DTCs on the radio. You should be able to pull up the DTC function on the radio since you cant use the hand controls to toggle through the odometer read out.

 

Try removing the main fuse then re-inserting it. I had the same issue with my buddy's SG that is most likely your issue

 

Alright fellas… here the updates (still not resolved thou):
So couple days ago, after unplugging all the connectors and also unclamped the bar, I found one of the “inside” pin in one of the connectors somehow got pushed in. So I figured just I replace it and reuse the stock one. After snake it out and snake in the stock one into the bar, I noticed it kinda too short coming out the hole on the bottom bar and will barely make it to the harness (even thou this a 12” bar). So I ended up buying some 6 inches extensions off Amazon.
The extensions got delivered literally about couple hours ago and so I went to work right away. AND… still not working!! I did everything I could (switched the placement of the connectors around, in case I was wrong.., make sure nothing got pinched, swapped the 5A fuse couple times) and still NADA..!!
I’m really at the end of my rope here. Was trying to be a good brother and helping my buddy with this install but I feel like I’m hitting the dead end! Am so confused here!!

Those extensions probably won't make much of a difference, they're just passive extension wires.

Maybe yo should undo the assembly and remove the cables from the bars and see if it works.

Also, not sure I understood the issue with the pins being pushed in - if there was a pin not pushed in all the way on one connector, there could be others like this too.

I think he best thing is to backtrack and remove the wires and start from the beginning.

EDIT - I change the bars on my 2018 RGS about five times, so I know a lot can go wrong. Its easy to make a mistake and pinch a wire or forget something.

No worries. The bar is pre-wired and upon inspection, everything looks OK. Except for the one wire on the clutch side that has a pin "pushed" all the way back. So that was the one I took out and replaced it with the stock one that turned out (for whatever odd reason) a bit short to me. So that's when I ended up buying a 6" extension and add it to the stock for more slack. And like I mentioned, still not working!

Turn on the ignition switch and when the warring screen comes up push and hold the power button and the Service menu will come up. DTC will be the very first thing in the menu. There should be codes stored. once you get the post what they are.

I'm not sure this "method" will work on my situation because all the buttons on either the clutch and throttle sides are not working. But let me try it anyway.

It seems to be the settings configured by the owner of the video.... not you.

 

Did you check the plugs at the switch packs????? There are plugs on BOTH ends of the wire harness.

For what ever reason the BCM is NOT seeing the switch packs. If it was a bad wire or bare or grounded wire the code would show that, but they are not being detected. I think you have either the OE ones or the ones that came with the bars correct? Here is what I would do. Take one that is not in the bars and take off the switch pack and plug the stuff up OUTSIDE of the bars and see what you get. I mean it can only be one plug or the other.

 

Why not try using the original wiring and see if everything works if so then You know the issue is with the prewired handlebar wiring.

That would be my suggestion also. Sounds like something might have been damaged or mis-assembled in the pre wiring that came with the bars.
