When I bought my bike, I purchased the WHIM and the HD branded 50S headsets because that's what the motor company told you to do. I wanted full functionality of my head unit, hand controls and Apple CarPlay. The way I ran everything was two headsets were paired to the WHIM and the 3rd headset was used when riding the LowRider ST and paired to that rider's phone. Communication was via the built in bike intercom when riding two up and mesh when riding in groups. Music was always played through the headsets. Now that I'm older and wiser, I know that there were better ways to go about that. Flash forward to now where I have upgraded everything about my in bike infotainment system and now use the new speakers for music and I replaced the head unit with the V2 as well. So now I'm in a state of flux...
Cardo Packtalk (Pro and Edge) features are far superior to the Sena 50S features in my opinion. I'm just debating whether or not to change things out and if I did, the best way to set the unit up to achieve the most functionality. Do you all typically pair your headsets to your bike or just to your phones? If paired to the phone instead of the bike, can you play music through the bike's speakers using Apple CarPlay while having phone features and navigation through the headsets? That would essentially mean that the phone would have to be paired to the bike while simultaneously paired to the headset. I'm assuming this is possible but didn't know for certain. I do know that the built in navigation of the SoundStream would have to come through the bike's audio if you never pair your headset to the bike, but I would rarely use that navigation anyway.
I also ride in groups where we communicate upcoming turns and road hazards. No real chit chat stuff. They all use Sena and I would be the lone Cardo guy. I know that you can pair and Cardo, but there are limitations on having to stay within 100' for that bridge to work. Anyone have real world experience with this? How cumbersome is it?
The main two features I'm liking about the Packtalk Pro is the auto on/off feature and the ability to have private grouping. That allows me to talk with my passenger back and forth while not broadcasting to the overall mesh group and still being able to hear that. To me that is a killer feature because my son and wife...we like to talk while we ride but don't need everyone in the mesh group to hear our conversations. It's usually about them anyway.
