I have volunteered to be the host for this years Anti-Shark Week event. It should be a great time with some awesome riding in the Sierras.

The Dates are Friday JUNE 23rd through Monday JUNE 26th 2017 in beautiful Sonora CA along Highway 49 in the Sierras. Arrive on Friday, Day rides Sat and Sun and head back home on Monday.

We will be staying at:

Best Western PLUS Sonora Oaks Hotel and Conference Center
19551 Hess Ave.
Sonora, CA 95370
Phone 209-533-4400
Fax 209-532-1964

Group name: Anti Shark Week 2017

I have an initial block of 11 rooms:

7 Exec Double Queens Fri & Sat $149.99, Sun $129.99
3 Exec King Fri & Sat $149.99, Sun $129.99
1 Two room suite Fri & Sat $203.99, Sun $186.99

2/21/17: I have added 6 more Double Queen rooms to our room block. These additional rooms will be located in the same area as the first 11 rooms.

5/30/17: We have 23 rooms booked! I was able to secure a total of 25 rooms at this discounted rate. If you want to reserve a room at the Anti-Sharkweek rate you will have to do by Friday 6/2. After that the rate will be the normal summer rate.

I would recommend you call and make your room reservations if you think there is a good chance you might attend. All you have to do is call the phone number above and tell them you want to make a group reservation and give them the Anti Shark Week 2017 name. They will need a credit card to hold the room BUT will not bill your card at that time so there is no cost to make your reservation.

We had a great turn out the last several years and this years event will surely be packed, so make you reservations early. If we fill up the initial block of rooms, I can add more if I do it early enough. This is high season for them, but we got some good rates and the location is perfect:

The hotel has a restaurant right next door that we get a breakfast coupon for and it's not your ordinary continental stuff. It's a hot breakfast cooked to order.

A bar with entertainment: Quite possibly Karaoke or a local band

Bar B Que grill and patio with tables and chairs for our evening Bar B Que and party

5.5 miles from Jamestown Harley Davidson
22 miles from Murphy's

Our long Day ride will be over Sonora Pass (108) to 395, then up to Markleeville for Lunch, then back over Hwy 4. This is a great ride going both directions and Markleeville is an awesome little town with a nice Restaurant/Bar for us to enjoy a nice lunch.

I have some ideas for the other day's ride that would take us up to Poor Red's in El Dorado, or maybe another destination.

Please let me know if you have any questions or have any issues making your room reservations. (They have been great to deal with)

Looking forward to seeing old friends and hopefully some new faces this year!

Poor Reds just reopened in April of 2016 after being closed for quite awhile new owners and a major remodel as I understand .. a lot more seating more like a "real" restaurant from what I've heard ...haven't stopped in to see for myself .

Poor Red's is a happening place. I was there for the Grand Opening last year and have been back many times, most recently on New Years Day.

The General Manager, Steve Anderly, is a personal friend, and very Biker Friendly.

While Poor Red's is Very Motorcycle Friendly, it IS NOT a Biker Bar, with all the negatives that can imply for some people. It is family friendly as well.

Here are a few photos of Poor Red's.

Outside:

Inside the bar. That's Steve on the left with his back to us:

A few of my Club Brothers with Steve on the right:

They have increased the seating for indoor dining by at least 300% over the original size, plus added an outdoor patio area that is at least 150% of the new indoor seating.

There is plenty of space for a lot of large groups at the same time and the menu is good. I haven't found anything on it yet that I didn't like.

Here's a link to their Facebook Page for more information.

I don't think I will be staying overnight for this, but I look forward to riding up on both days to hook up with you guys. Sonora is not that far from Sacramento. I can be up there in just a couple of hours, and ready to ride again as soon as I top off the tank.

I have added 6 more double Queen rooms to our block of rooms as the original block was almost sold out. IF you haven't reserved your room, please contact the hotel and get them reserved if you are even thinking of going! You can always cancel later. They do not charge your card now, just need to hold room.

This should be a great trip with some awesome riding.

I haven't seen any activity on this thread in almost 2 months. Everyone still planning on attending? Any rooms left, or did we fill up our 17 rooms?

I'm still planning on attending, but not staying overnight. Sonora is an easy ride from my place.

Yes Sir Stick. The Wife and I will see you there. I'm sure the others already committed will be there as well.
