Only reason I was looking at an HD one was because a buddy told me most of the aftermarket ones drain your battery.

I'm not adding a HD alarm. I've been looking at the Guard Dawg and/ or Gorilla Brand.......both make a plug & play & have the Fob that activates / deactivates w/in a certain distance........
I installed the HD alarm on my 2010, it was a plug and play; no dealer needed. I have to say that snapping the alarm into its cradle took more effort than I thought it would; I thought I was going to break the catch.
It is loud, and I like it. Sometimes the alarm will chirp when I just jump on the bike and take the bike off the jiffy stand. When you first walk up to the bike it takes a few seconds for the bike to recognize the key fob and then disarm the alarm.
