A small group of friends (7-10 bikes) are headed to Arkansas here in a few weeks (April 25-28). We've spent long weekends there the last two years. Looking for suggestions or must see roads, places, beverage stops etc.....

We will ride from Houston Texas area to Mena on day one that includes a side trip on the Talimena Scenic Drive. Day two will take us up the Pig Trail (AR23) with a stop at Turner Bend Store then on to Eureka Springs then a short loop that includes Kingston. Day three we will head back south on 23 to Cass and take 215/103 to Clarksville where we will pick up AR123 to Sand Gap then south on 7 to Mt Nebo then on to Hot Springs and Mt Tower road. Day four will take us back to Houston.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Thanks Tom........I've already hit up the Arkansas Tourism site.....they were kind enuf to send me some info and maps. I'm sorta looking for those out of the way biker friendly establishments and back roads that most won't venture toward ;-)

You have a well planned ride through our neck of the woods. Since you're going to be on Hwy 23 you might consider peeling off and heading east on Hwy 215 and hitting the old Oark General Store for breakfast or lunch. It's short ride over from Hwy 23, good ride and the store is pretty nostalgic. The general store has been in continuous operation since 1890.

I remember getting some good frog legs at a place on the south side of Greers Ferry Lake.

Do some diamond mining at Crater of Diamonds State Park in Murfreesboro, just northeast of Nashville.

Hot Springs is nice and a ride up to the peak of Hot Springs National Park is worth the ride.

you have some great roads already in the plan.

I would recommend staying at Mt Magazine Lodge over Mena if you can do a few extra miles that day. BBQ lunch @ Rivertowne BBQ in Ozark is outstanding, then do the Pig Trail (AR-23). The Best Western Inn of the Ozarks in Eureka Springs is very biker friendly and has a great restaurant, especially breakfast. Out of Eureka Springs, consider the loop around Table Rock Lake along MO-76...very fun road...then go around the SW corner of Branson and back into Arkansas. The Cliff House Inn and Restaurant are a good grocery stop when doing the Arkansas Grand Canyon (AR-123), as is the Ozark Cafe in Jasper. Stay a few extra day, if possible.

I have several routes available in GPX format available @ www.twistedrides.us. Just click on the map to view.

Enjoy!

A strong second to that motion for Oark. Great experience, genuine rustic. Parking area is not paved, but the food is outstanding. They actually have a website so you can look it over. The road to it is a very good ride, but I don’t believe it is paved beyond it. Someone might know different, but we always just ride to Oark and then head back the same way. We ride from KS to AR twice a year, and do much of what you are doing. You will go back, for sure! Have a great trip. Our next trip is mid May.

One other must do to add to the bucket list while in the area;

Hit Peel Ferry (Arkansas & Missouri Hwy 125) You start in one state, ride the ferry across Bull Shoals lake and end up in the other state. Great ride, especially the MO side.

I would recommend staying at Mt Magazine Lodge over Mena if you can do a few extra miles that day.
Another excellent tip. The Lodge is beautiful. Make sure you have reservations though. Availability can be limited.
