Count me in for this. I suggest the 47th and Mission Rd location. Easier and quicker to get to off of I-35. Let me know your plans and I'll ride out and meet u guys somewhere.

qkshift, thats a saturday.

BigJack, thats the location we planned on. Went there last year on our way to Sturgis.

Basically we'll just hammer ass there, eat and maybe hit a dealership then back home. We'll take I-64 to I-70 then I-35.

Whoa, them's fightin' words. Also, I just spent a week in Austin TX, with a stop at Rudy's Country Store and Bar-B-Q. Their Moist Brisket is unbelievable. Tell them you are a Rookie when you get to the counter, and you get to sample everything they have before deciding.

This is real tempting. Have to see what I can get out of Demo Days at the dealership on my Friday lunch "hour:rolleyes:".

What time do you think Limey will be rolling across the Missouri River?

Also, it you have a little time here, you could hang a right on I-270 from I-64 (aka Highway 40 (pronounced like Farty) to the locals), go up to I-70 and head west to St. Charles HD, where you will find the Harley Demo Truck with the 2013 models.

edit: Looking at the map, the Olathe location may be easier to get to, take 470/435 around to the south, then down US-56. Place looks to be right off the highway. Just a thought.

This sounds like fun! I wonder if anyone from MN/WI/Iowa will chime in to go. I'm not sure I'd be up for a butt burner solo... It's a 470mi trip one way for me. I would need a detour somewhere along the way to make sure I hit the 1000 mile mark though :)

I'm in...always up for BBQ!

The problem with any of the OkieJoe's locations is that a line forms all the way out the doors shortly after they open up! Fortunately the lines move reasonably quickly, but you're still fighting the crowds.

I think we can form a welcoming committee to meet you on the east side of town and escort you on to Olathe. Rawhide HD is further on down the road, and depending on what you want to accomplish after you've filled your gullet, you can hit Gail's on the south east side or maybe even Worth's and the H-D plant on the north side.

Oh Man I'm jealous!!! I have other plans otherwise I'd make a trip.

Ok Joes is my favorite out of the three I've been to there (Joes, Arthur Bryant's and Gates).

You are SOOOOO lucky to be going on a Saturday. I'm pretty sure the "special" is the burnt ends (brisket). You HAVE to get them. Fan-F'n-Tastic!!!!

We would love to try more BBQ places there but given the time we have, it wont happen this trip. We will be on the road for nearly 20 hrs. Maybe in the future we can plan a wknd BBQ tour and do some comparison.

put me down for a maybe

Okay, I am headed to Grenada, MS on Friday to visit Jeni. 644 miles, then KC is 551 miles one way. We are talking about doing the KC run in two days, so Jeni would have two 10 hour days, and I would have 4 10+ hour days or 2500 miles in 4 days. I am ready. 35K checkup has just been completed, so bike is ready. I think Jeni would rather to the Natchez Trace.

Tracy, sent you a PM with some info.

Checked this place out on the web. It sounds like Rudy's in Austin, which is also a gas station. Sorta wierd, we pull in and all you really see is a Shell station with a rather large parking lot.

20 hour run for BBQ, that is dedication.

I was just saying its my favorite of the three I've been to. I do not live anywhere near KC.

BBQ is SO subjective. To give an example, you mention that their sauce is so-so. Well, I like my ribs dry.

No doubt there is a ton of good BBQ in KC. I wouldn't call it the Capital, but it is one of the powerhouses. THere are too many different styles of BBQ. If you mentioned BBQ to someone in the carolinas they'd surely interpret what you mean is pulled pork, not ribs.

If you live there consider yourself lucky to have th opportunity to try all different kinds and locations.

Tracy and gang... I'm still jealous. Don't forget about the burnt ends :)

I'm penciling it in.

I'm north of Minneapolis we could meet up. If my wife or dad tag along. It might not be an iron butt. It's funny how when u start talking 1000 miles no one wants to ride with u.

BBQ is like religion, everyone has their favorite. I'm partial to the molasses-based sauces, especially Hayward's (as far as I'm concerned, Hayward's smoked sausage platter is do die for). Jack Stack is also really good, and, for "atmosphere" you can't go wrong with BB's Lawnside or any of the joints on Eastwood Trafficway (although you need bodyguards to go in that neighborhood!). Shoot, Snead's out in Belton has been out there a gazillion years and is way underated as far as I'm concerned.

So did you decide on the "gas station" version or the one easier to get to... ;)
