Tonight I installed these Sequential Saddlebag LEDs on my 24 Road Glide I found on Amazon for less than $30. But I mounted them with a twist, read below. Sequential Turn Saddlebag LEDs
I found a couple companies that say they offer sequential turn saddlebag LED's for my 24 Road Glide but they were all over $200, almost $300! Crazy. Christmas is coming, screw that.
Since I already mounted a Tour-Pak (with lighting) on my 24 RG months ago, I knew I had the standard Harley 6 pin connector to power the lighting in the Tour-Pak. For the 24's Harley (and others) make a "splitter" cable that taps into the 12 pin connectors under the seat that then splits off and connects to the same 6 pin Tour-Pak harness Harley's been using for years. I figured for $30 it was worth taking a shot to see if a Rushmore saddlebag LED kit might work on the different shaped 24 saddlebags. If they didn't fit, well, Amazon has free returns - no harm, no foul.
And it was right there I was ALMOST stopped dead in my tracks. The curves between the Rushmore bags and the 24's are different. We all know they're different, but they're not that much different. The 24's are wider and not as deep as the Rushmore bags. The Rushmore style LED strips really didn't conform well enough to the 24 bags for my liking. I could have lowered the LED strips down the bag a few inches where they fit the rear of the saddlebag a little better, but even then there was a gap in the center of the strip. I didn't like it. At all. In fact I don't like two sided tape on any painted surface, let alone a surface with different contours. Half-assed taped shit always falls off and becomes a friggin' nightmare down the road.
Enter my local Ace Hardware store.
I strolled around not having a clue what I was looking for, but I knew what I wanted to do. A way to mount the Rushmore LED kit to my 24 saddlebags and NOT have them fall off and NOT tape them to my paint and NOT have to disconnect a boatload of wiring when I remove my saddlebags and NOT have to mount them halfway down the bag.
BINGO! A couple of these for each side - $5:
Not only can I easily unclamp the led strips to remove the bags without pulling the wiring, the LED strips stick & fit oh so much better to the nylon clamps and are not taped to the saddlebags. The top of the clamps fit perfectly along the seal to the saddlebag lid so there's no water leakage, and as a huge bonus I can run them just under the lid where I really wanted them in the first place!
Here's a pic one LED strip mounted and the other getting ready to stick to the two sided tape.
And mounting complete!
Here in a bit I'll upload a video showing the amber sequential turn, red running and bright red brake.
Money saved is money earned for more important accessories, bwahahaha!
