What method have you members used to retain the tour pack lid organizer besides the double sided glue strips?

I just purchased a 2013 tour pack that was hardly used with a luggage rack on it and I plan to run the 4 luggage rack bolts thru the material on the organizer, but I would like to use a better adhesive to help hold the outside edges of the organizer.

We just had our first batch of cold weather here and the weight of the organizer and several items have shown that the double sided tape is not going to get the job done.

Any help with your experiences is appreciated.

Where the double sided tape will contact the inner surface of the tourpak, give those areas a sanding with a 80-100 grit sandpaper, vaccum up any sanding dust from the surface when you are done. Don't test the roughness of the surface with your bare hands, that will introduce oils from you skin onto the surface impeding the bond.

Plastic oxidizes. You just don't see the results of the oxidization like you would with metal. Sanding the surface does 2 things. It increases the actual surface area for the tape to bond too and it removes the surface laitence layer of oxidized plastic.

Use isopropyl alchohol to clean the prepared surface and let it dry completely before applying the tape. Press the tape into the prepared surface so that it gets a good hold on the scratched surface. Let the tape "cure" for approximately 24 hours before you re-attach the liner. If you can, shine a trouble light onto the inside of the lid onto the applied tape. The heat will help cure the glues in the tape. You don't need a lot of heat, just make sure it is warmer than the surrounding areas, a difference of 10-20°F will help to force cure the tape.

As the others have said, use the luggage rack bolts along with the industrial strength 2 sided tape or even the 3m industrial strength velcro. Prepping the surface is key. It needs to be clean, & wiped down with alcohol and completely dry. That tape that HD gives with the organizer is some super strong stuff if its applied to a properly prepped surface. I removed mine last spring to paint the pak & lid & had a helluva time getting the remnants of that tape off. I ended up using the 3m industrial velcro and the luggage rack bolts to mount it after paint.

Thanks for the help to my question concerning my organizer. I prepared the lid surface and attached the organizer with the 4 rack attaching bolts and Velcro. I also purchased a luggage rack base washer kit from Rocket Moto Sport and I went thru the organizer with the bolts and large washers.

It appears that this will work to hold the organizer strongly to the lid.

You have to use longer rack attachment bolts with the chrome washers & cushions and going thru the organizer.
