So does the engine turn over and crank but will not start or are you just getting a clicking sound when you hit the start button?

It cranks but doesn't turn over. I'm going to start fresh in the AM. 12.8v on battery. I wonder if the starter is shot?

If it's cranking then it is turning over and more than likely the starter is good. You need 3 things for it start, gas, spark and air. Do you hear the fuel pump run when you turn the ignition switch on? If you do the pull the spark plug wire off the spark plug and check to see if there is spark when cranking.
