I purchased a Klock Werks smoke tinted flare 2 months ago. I went to Klock Werks website to find dealers that participate in the "Try A Flare" program and visited the 3 withing a 50 mile range from me with no luck. They only carried street glide models and nothing for the road glides, and especially the "older models". I ride a '13 RGU.
After a long pissing match with Klock Werks I am stuck with it unless I wanted to pay a hefty restocking fee and shipping both ways on a different model and end up with a $300 windshield that is the same height as the one I replaced.

I had the 12" HD knock-off version of the Klock Werks flare and it was too short at 12". I ordered the 14" KW flare and it is too tall and looking thru the flare portion for road gremlins isn't safe IMO. I have put about a 1000 miles of Colorado's twisties and country riding on it and I have decided to try to cut it down.
Any help with cutting a flared shield is appreciated. I joking thought about cutting 2 eye holes like a pumpkin in it. Or a maybe a slot.

I too have had a lot of issues trying to find a shield- Contacted Klock Werks, and though they were responsive, the only option I have is to ride 240 miles round trip to find a participating dealer in the "try a flare" program- I've already put on about 500 miles going to other dealers listed on their map, none of which had any shields, which pissed me off quite frankly.

Before cutting your shield and losing ANY ability to sell it, have you looked at just purchasing another brand and selling the KW to recoup those funds?

Long Ride Shields is offering a Memorial Day Sale right now that is almost too good to say no too. Freedom Shields is another great brand and John is absolutely fantastic- he also offers a roadglide.org discount. Lastly, there is Baggershield, who is also offering a Memorial Day Sale and is a site sponsor. There are also others, Memphis Shades, Windvest etc. that might have something- no matter what, I'd recommend ordering one through RevZilla or Amazon if you're not sure of the return policy... with Rev or Amazon, you can pretty much be promised to return them as long as they aren't used and/or abused before sending them back.

Thank you for the feedback
I haven't tried to go back to my shop, it is a small local shop that has a great team and a great resource for information. Owned by 2 bothers for 20+ years. Phatrides in Loveland CO.
My theory is: why jam them up and lose a great resource? I was the one who ordered it and accepted the advise. They were just trying to help me after all.
I was not happy with KW and their "shame on you" fees and "No help" BS. But hey, buyer beware I guess.

If your shop wants some shields from Klock Werks, I would ask them if they want to be a part of the "try a flare" program. The dealer they wanted me to go visit didn't have late model road glide screens in their inventory and Klock sent them 3 screens and asked that I go see them to try. Beware- Klock is currently out of stock on the 9" sport flare and they currently do not have a delivery time table on those.

Otherwise, your shop might get a few shields to provide as testers and you'll benefit from getting to try a few extra out as well!!! All you have to do is contact Klock by email and let them know what your dilemma has been and that your local dealer needs a few testers.... good luck!!!

I've been using ClearView shields for several years now. I know about the distortion that you're talking about, it almost makes me feel like I'm drunk. ClearView says their shields are optically correct. They are I haven't had any distortion in any of the shields I've bought from them. You can get them with or without their "recurve", mine have all had it. With my 13 Ultra Limited, I had them put their vent in it; it eliminated the head buffeting.

The shield comes wrapped in plastic. They tell you to install it with this plastic on it and try it out. If you don't like it, you can send it back. Once you remove the plastic wrapping you can't return it.

Old thread updated, but the question was asked about cutting a Klockwerks windshield. I have had success cutting a 15" Pro Touring. I installed factory 47 bars on my 18 RGS and noticed I was not hitting the 15" Pro Touring windshield. I just identified the area that needed to be removed and cut it out. I used a Oscillating Dremel Tool similar to what you would use to cut under door jams and moulding. Just put painters tape on the shield, sliced off the excess material, (need to make multiple passes instead of just plunging through) then once it was rough cut, used a sanding drum on a regular dremel to smooth out the contours. The most difficult part was making the sides match. I ended up making a liitle jig that I could put on the center top of the shield and spin from left to right to layout exacting dimensions. I first gridded the entire windshield with painters tape to ensure I had good reference points and went to town.

Just switched out my klockwerks 12" pro touring flare (which I love) and installed a LRS 10" stingray to try out. Temperature here switched and not going to get a good comparison on the road. But took some pictures installed in the shop and amazed at how much difference there is in the distortion. Actually worked pretty good that the boat was sitting in front of the bike for the photos. I took the pictures as close as possible to my eye height. Still want to try a klockwerks 9" sport flare, but for the price and pics from Swomack I thought I'd try the LRS. Thanks Swo for pushing me to add to my pile of parts for the bike....it never ends... IMG_20181106_180646881.jpeg IMG_20181106_175813577.jpeg
