Hey fellow Harley(SHARKIES) brothers and/or sisters!

Last Saturday is a date I will never forget, February 27, 2016! I bought my first own brand new vehicle from a dealership. I got a great deal on a Road Glide Special and wouldn't have had my first brand new purchase any other way. Anyways...I'm not only new to this forum but to Harley ownership in general. I decided to get the FLTRXS as my first bike cuz I know it will be the motorcycle for the rest of my life(a few trade ins here and there of course)

To get to the point...I have so many questions and would love to take any tips and pointers from all your experience Harley and Road Glide owners. My baby is all stock right now and like every Harley owner wants to do...I need some upgrades and customizations for my own taste.

FIRST- I for sure want to do a stage 1 upgrade, which I believe is my intake and my exhaust(headers included). On that note I want a nice deep rumble that has a good masculine grunt! LOUD...but not too loud in respect to my neighbors for the nights I come home late. I'm trying to decide between brands first...Screamin Eagle or Vance and Hines. Those are my top two and I'm open to any suggestions. Then from picking there picking the right pipes and the intake to go with it.

SECOND- I am having trouble on finding the right programmer as well. I want the perfect combo of PERFORMANCE and GREAT MILAGE. I've read up on Power Commander V, Vance and Hines and so many more that I can't decide.....

....as I was shopping on Craigslist for my first harley i came across a '14 street glide special that had all the right fixings. I asked with all his performance upgrades if his milage suffered. He said he went from getting 210-230 on a full tank to 250-260 on a full tank with all his upgrades(keeping in mind of his riding)

Before I work on the looks of my already beautiful baby...I JUST WANT TO KNOW WHAT PERFORMANCE UPGRADES TO DO TO INCREASE TORQUE AND POWER BUT ALSO INCREASING MILAGE WITH THE RIGHT PROGRAMMER AND INTAKE AND EXHAUST!

THANK YOU IN ADVANCED FOR THE INPUT AND BROTHERLY SUPPORT/LOVE!

Sounds like you've already drank the Kool-Aid. Just open your wallet. Buying the bike was just a down payment. Now you REALLY start spending some cabbage!

Some of the Screamin' Eagle exhaust products used to be subbed out to V&H, and I believe some of the newer stuff is probably farmed out to SuperTrapp. Don't quote me on that, but if you compare design, brackets, bends (specifically interchangability of heat-shields on the older stuff), many of the parts interchange between V&H and SE.

Some of the newer pipes look identical to SuperTrapp, with the exception of the SE stamp.

I'm running Freedom Performance headpipes, and Freedom Performance "Combat" mufflers, with a V&H FP3. Low exhaust tone, with a rowdy bark when you crack the throttle. Idling thru the neighborhood early or late is OK. But opening the throttle is NOT. No issues with backfire or runability. All around, I like the combo I've chosen. On the highway, I average a steady 42-46 mpg. And I ride pretty hard.

Welcome to the forum. Plenty of opinions here, and lots of good advice. The worst part is being inspired by what everyone else is doing to their shark, and obligating yourself to spend the money.

Congrats on the new bike, and welcome to the forum from Alaska.

Welcome to the "shark side"! Stock V&H are a great choice for styling performance and great sound. Low growl yet louder than stock. Mild for those that want loud. Now a days i want to hear my radio and to hear my farts! Lol. Tuner, again hard to beat the ease an efficiency of V&H FP3. Although i have had issues with the one i got for the shark, they replaced it and has been working like the earlier model i had for the Dyna. Hard to beat S&S intakes (theyve always had the market cornered in fueling). So that kinda raps up my thoughts on a stage 1...

Buying the bike is only the price of admission! Good luck on your journey and always remember we're here to give you advise or shit...which ever may be needed lolol. Just kidding. Great bunch of brothers here

Welcome from Ohio.
Check out Fuel Moto and their Jackpot exhaust, I installed them on a few bikes with nice results, they also have air cleaners, and tuners, They will even have a good base tune already programed for your combination, they are also a sponsor on our forum.

Welcome from Connecticut! Congrats on the new ride.
To add to the options already offered, I went the VH route with mufflers and a de-catted stock header. Nice rumble, much cooler. The FP-3 is super easy to use so long as you're not planning to do major engine mods. So far, I've been very happy with the results here.

With pipe and mufflers is is alway a personal choice of looks and sound. For shear performance, a 2into1 pipe like D&D is the best by far, the Freedom Performance headpiece and their mufflers are excellent and perform really well that want a more balanced look out back. On tuning devices, the Power Vision is hard to beat. It does everything you could possibly want and that is great for those constantly upgrading things. The next is the cam, Andrews 57H is the perfect cam along with pipes and a tuner to get that hp up to 95-100 and the torque 109 plus. You don't have to change your air cleaner as harley has gone to a washable high flow a/c and does just fine for these enhancements. If you just want a better look with a/c it want help you but will get the look you may want and set you up for head work down the road which again will boost hp/tq. Good luck and Howdy from Texas.
