Here are some pics from my trip last week. 4000 miles in 10 days. We got held up a few days as my buddies air lien s on the stock shocks broke, we ordered a set of Monroe's (he ordered the wrong ones but made them work) and then the Monroe was not spaced out on teh pulley side which caused the bag to blow on them, and then got a set of air lines for his stock shocks. It was a hassle but from this guy I always assume the worst. At least he brought a jack in the trailer with all of our camping stuff.

Regardless, I did not get to do the Olympic Loop in Washington as I had wanted to due to the unforeseen delays and had to cancel a few reservations and such but we still did the trip and had a great time.

The route was HWY 101 to San Luis Obispo to HWY 1 through Big Sur and into Monterey where we stayed the first night. The next day we were supposed to do HWY 1 all the way up to Crescent city or so to camp. We ended up in Petaluma at Michael's HD who were useless in every way but I met a guy there who offered to let us use his garage and tools to do what we needed to do.

Once we got the shocks sorted out it was off the Eureka via 101 due to the fact were were already a day behind. My buddies sleeping bag got stolen at the cheap hotel in Eureka (Eurefreka is what I call it). The next day it was up 101 to HWY 199 into Oregon. Absolutely gorgeous. From there we took hwy 62 to Crater Lake. Camped there. The next day we took 62 to 230 to 97 and stopped in bend so my buddy (never prepared) could get his front tire put on. Yes, he had it strapped to the top of the trailer for the first few days. From Bend we took 26 to 7 to Baker City, Or where the Hells Canyon Rally was about to start. Hoteled it there and discovered the air shock my buddy put on was busted. Found air lines at the advance Auto in Baker City and put the stock shocks back on (he brought his lift in the trailer) at which point we had no more issues except that he lost his key. Not sure how some guys get out of bed in the morning. Regardless, Baker City was nice. Small town atmosphere is something I know nothing about growing up in Los Angeles.

The next day we headed out for Hells Canyon Scenic Byway HWY 86 to Hells Canyon Road itself which runs along the Snake River and dead ends at a dam at the top. We rode back down Hells Canyon and took a swim in the river as it was blisteringly hot. From there we took 71 to 95 and into Lewiston for the night. The next day we headed out on 12 East across Idaho and into Missoula MT. From there we took hwy 93 to hwy 200 to Spokane.

From Spokane we took Hwy 2 to 174 to 153 to 53 to 20 if memory serves correctly. Hwy 20 (Cascade Loop) was incredible. It was cool up there and had to actually get the jacket out for the first time during the trip. From 20 we took 95 into Tacoma and stayed at a friends house. At this point I separated from my buddy as I still wanted to do some rides that we were going to miss due to down time so I split at 6am. It gets light around 430 in Tacoma. I was loving that. I took 5 (got a speeding ticket doing 74) as the speed limit is 55 and 60 in Washington. Unbelievable. Never had a moving violation on a Harley before. Regardless I took the 5 to hwy 12 into Aberdeen and all the way down the coast of Oregon to Eureka that day. 101 is a very slow way to go I discovered as the speed limits go from 55 to 45 to 25 in every town on the way but the sights were in credible and I met some nice people along the way. In oregon they have attendants to pump gas but if you have a bike they let you do it yourself.

From Eureka I took 101 South to Ave of the Giants (incredible road) back to 101 and then to 1 all the way down to Santa Cruz. From Santa Cruz (I shoudl have stopped for the night) I took 101 all the way home. I left Saturday at 8am and got home at 1am and boy was I beat. Regardless it was a great trip and I did almost everything I wanted to. Here are some random pics and a link to my photobucket where you can see all my pics.

The Road Glide ran flawlessly the entire trip and the Monroe shocks worked great. The Madstad was very nice and thank god my bike has a Corbin seat with backrest as I never got monkey but which is almost hard to believe in that amount of miles. The total tally from my buddies place in Van Nuys was 4088.

Wow, thanks for the pics. Nice looking road glide. Glad you ride it.
Been to the ralley at Hells Canyon a couple of times. Nice area over there. Just did that route up the canyon to Lewiston in end of june. Still a little hot in places for us. Did the Rattlesnake into Lewiston. Good ride.
The Lolo the way tou did it west to east is my favorite. Hwy 200 in Montana another favorite.
It does seem some people when riding just have the worst luck..too bad for them. Takes some of the enjoyment out of it. Still , you can look back on those trips and SMILE and thats a good thing......memories :>)

Sounds like you had a great a trip. I have a very good friend that I will NEVER take another trip with as he has similar issues as your buddy...

A couple comments:

Your buddy TRAVELS with a lift in his trailer? WTF?

The speed limit in WA state is 60 mph in urban areas, 70 mph outside of there. It's posted. Frequently. You can often run at 70 mph in urban areas if traffic as a whole is moving along at close to that speed. You don't want to be the guy standing out going 10 mph faster than everybody else though.
