What is a tell-tale sign that a lifter is going, so that you can catch it in time? I have been reading a bit too much about them lately, especially owning a 110" TC.

I caught mine from the knocking of the pushrod flopping around in the tube. Unmistakable sound. My lifter failure was clogged journals not allowing them to pump.up. Spazz looks to be a different story so his indicators may be different. But theres more than one reason a lifter fails.
Spazz, sorry to hear about Your misfortune but glad You caught it in time to fix it before it exploded and made a real mess of everything.

Noisey top end is how mine started out.. like a loose pushrod... right after I pulled everything out and COMPLETELY OVERLOOKED this... I put it back together and adjusted my pushrods.... then I got the 'chirping' from the lifter... THATS When I pulled again and found this.
What you cant see in the pic is the amount of up and down play in the roller... the needle bearing are trashed and worn out... I can shake the lifter and hear the needles rattle in the roller
That sucks! Are you replacing them with HD lifters?
Not my bike but S&S or a set from Larry would be going in. No way in hell would I put a HD lifters back in. Got lucky this time getting them out early. Next time might not be so lucky

After your unfortunate lifter failure, S&S seems like the logical answer then.
When I was gather my parts for my build I didn't debate the lifter choice. Cams yes, so many solid choices.
S&S lifter track record is proven. HD, unfortunately that is proven also.
She is alive!! I went with the TW408-6 Woods cams, SE billet cam plate, SE high volume oil pump, Tapered pushrods and S&S lifters
Fired er up on Sunday... man.... what a different sound!!! She sounds ANGRY!!!

Congrats on the build and getting it fired up. Interesting cam choice. Ive not seen much on that cam but did some digging. Was any other cams considered? Not bashing at all just wondering.

got a 2015 RGS around 25000 mls on it and just had a stage 3 kit put on it.. Put around 300 miles on it so far in the break in and keep hearing tapping sounds from the engine. Is this normal while I break it in or should I let the dealer know about it before it gets worse or I do damage to the...
I pulled my gas tank to replace spark plugs on a new to me 2017 RGS. There is a 1/8" +- black tube on the top left next to the filler that runs back and down the side of the engine. It doesn't appear to have been connected to anything. I'm assuming this is a fuel tank vent and is not...
2 years ago a local dealer had to do rod bearings and also changed the lifters otherwise I would have missed Sharkweek (I had S&S lifters in it from a stage 1 and to this day question the lifter change). 2 years later, on my way back from Sharkweek in Deadwood, the upper end really started...
