So if you live in GA they passed the DOT only helmet law beginning of the year so I figured I would make the safe change over to DOT. I was at my local H-D dealer in Augusta, which by the way has a Very small selection of helmets, and was looking for a half shell DOT I could look somewhat normal in.

After looking for a half hour another customer approached me and said to google CarbonFiberhelmets.com as they claim to have the smallest DOT helmets on the market. So I went home, found the sight, looked at all the great photo's and ordered one!!!

Well it came in today and let me tell you....it looks no better than the $75 DOT one at the local Metric bike shop!!! ( the carbon fibers cost $185!!!) So I am sad to say that i am returning the helmet today for a full refund minus shipping.

I hope this helps anyone looking at these like I was since I couldnt find one in any store to try on.

Interesting, I've had several of these (non-DOT) since 2003 and would not have another helmet other than the non ******** trips helmet. I was in a wreck in 2006 on Halloween and banged my head pretty good. The Highway patrol and EMT saw the helmet after the wreck and wanted to know where to buy one, even though it was non-DOT. Can't speak for the DOT models as I've never understood why there is not something thinner and better than two inches of styrofoam to protect one's head. The CarbonFiberhelmets (head trips) are the best helmet I've found for me, regardless of the cost. One of the best things about them is when the inside gets grundgy, as all helmets do, simply pay for shipping and they have replaced the inside of the helmet.

I tend to agree, of course I have 4 of the non-DOT helmets. Two polo style and two extended half models. Their customer service is GREAT and the helmets are so comfortable, that I even wear them in states that have no helmet law.

I bought a carbon fiber helmet to save weight and found out later than carbon fiber helmets will, on impact, transmit more force to the brain. There is a Schuberth carbon fiber that has 5 layers of different materials to counteract this and it is still very light weight. Polycarbonate is actually safer and less expensive.

sharp.direct.gov.uk

this site will allow you to choose helmets that meet DOT and SNELL certifications and see how they performed under more strenuous testing, more real world testing. Some very expensive and popular helmets, like the Arai RX7 did not come out looking near as good as some of the Shark and others.

And if you ever do a face plant without a full coverage, well...............

Amen on the customer service. Me and my wife have one, my wife wanted snaps installed for a half shield. Sent them an email, sent the helmet, they added the snaps put anew liner in the helmet and charged me nothing. In a day when people don't even fix what you pay them to fix, this says volumes about carbonfiberhelmets.com. The only place I'll buy a helmet.

The recall was only on the DOT helmets they sold, not non-DOT. However you are correct the website does not come up anymore. I wonder if the recall caused them to stop, just dealing with the Government, the economy or a combination of all the above.

I purchased a Givi x1.0 with interchangeable chin guards.
The helmet while not DOT is euro standard which is better then DOT. It is very light weight and allows for lots of ventilation. can be worn as full face with closed chin guard in the winter, full face with vented chin guard in summer or as a 3/4 helmet.

Here is a Pic of it with the summer chin guard (Mine is flat black)

I love this helmet and can wear it in the summer in Houston and not feel like my brain is being boiled. Unlike a modular or flip up helmet this helmet is full face rated. I sometimes wear a shorty but watching one of my club brothers go down and get 40 stitches in his face, has encouraged me to stick with the full face.

You are correct sir. When I purchased mine I had to order it from the UK. Now if I can find a local dealer for it, I can finally get a replacement visor!

This was the first I had heard of their troubles. I have two of their helmets, one DOT and one non-DOT. I called today to try to get some info and was told that they have gone completely out of business. The company I found that bought out the rights to the kayak helmets and everything else gave me the information. I found them searching head trip helmets. Don't know if the information is true or complete but that's what I was told. ???

I have tried 4 tiimes to buy from carbonfibrehelmets last year and each time was told they had run out of materials, the supplier wasn't performing etc. etc. It did sound like to me they had run out of cash. Too bad as it was a good product.
