Anyone removed the cat from their 2010 RG yet? I was just wondering if the power and sound was worth the trouble of cutting the pipe.

I did a lot of research, and everything I could find and sound clips I heard, its not worth the trouble. I know that capturing sound is really hard unless you have really expensive equipment, but I have yet to hear a sound clip that I could tell 1 from the other on the before and after. I saw both versions, just drilling a hole through the cat, and totally removing it as well. If I were to do it,.. I would totally remove it as cutting a hole through it will not do much. Performance wise, your not gaining enough to go through the hassle. If you want performance, just buy an aftermarket headpipe.

I was even thinking of picking up a used pipe from ebay or from someone that put an aftermarket system on and using it as a test mule. You can find them for less than 100$ I guess the jackpot headpipe flows close to the factory with the cat removed and it is 400$

I know we have member who has Dynoed several different pipes with his 103 upgrade, and he went back to the original pipe because he got the best torque and HP from his original pipe without a tuner.:rolleyes::rolleyes:

Wouldn't removing the cat cut down on the heat?
Might be worth it, just for that!!

I did the mod. Sound did improve, but not a huge diffrence. Heat reduction was my goal, and it helped. Search the forum, there is a lot of info on this. I posted pics of what I did. I had the same idea as you and bought a stock setup off this forum. on a 1-10 scale it was a 6 to do. (if you can tig) I let others fears of 02 cross talk get the best of me so I welded in a short piece of stainless pipe to lenghten the back head pipe. Not sure it was needed but I did it anyway.

I agree with Chainsaw...........don't even screw with cutting your headpipe and invest in a aftermarket headpipe. Fuel Moto, Fullsac , and Vance & Hines make really good headpipes. A headpipe without a cat and a good tune will make her run cooler and give her a few more ponies. In a few weeks I'm hoping to receive my Fuel Moto Jackpot Headpipe and get rid of the cat !! :)

Head pipe or full system is the way to go if you got the 600.00+ to burn. also when I did the mod Fuel Moto and D&D were both 40 days out when I was looking. I would like a system, but I would rather put the money into cams and a 103 .

Your right about the wait or back order on some of this stuff, it can be frustrating. I was in limbo on what headpipe to buy and wanted to hear some results or feedback before I spent the money. I finally visited Fuel Moto to see their headpipe firsthand and really was impressed with the workmanship and quality of the headpipe. Hopefully my wait and patience will be worth it.

Cams and going to 103..........WILL really wake your bike up !!! What size or make of cam are you thinking of ??......I might have a set of SE255's for sale.

pm me with what you got if you chose to sell it, but I am going to wait until winter for the 103. South East Harley (Ohio) runs a deal in the winter that gives you a 103 kit installed for $1375.00 with a warranty. This includes dyno time. They have the bike all winter, but that means they store it as well. Nice way for them to drum up business in the slow months.

I hear you there,.. I got sick of waiting for Fuel moto to have some 2/1/2 back in stock and went with a stock 2010 Road King headpipe. No mapping changes, and now I have duals. Bike sounds great, but will eventually swap out to an aftermarket when I tear my engine down as well.

You will save more money than me chain, I can't or don't feel confident about doing a 103 by myself, or the cams, but you have done teardowns and frame-ups a bunch of times. Should be plenty left over for your new pipes!

Wondered why not? If you can get a spare pipe to mod. I think Fuel Moto is a great outfit but cannot see a great difference in their pipe vs. a modded stocker. Have read all the comments about cross talk, back pressure, etc. Have a friend that just installed a V&H propipe on his 010 Police bike and is very happy with it. I like the looks of the stock pipe and therefore have shied away from the V&H and D&D. Don't mind paying the freight if I can see value for the money. There's one website that recommends not messing with the CAT but buying their modified 02 sensors. Separating the wheat from the chaff is a challenge for sure. If my modded pipe doesn't work out I will let everyone know or for that matter how well it does work. The person I purchased it from has run it for awhile with good results.

Just did this mod. 3 hours from tear down to test ride.
My bike is stock except for a carriage works slip on and the xied harness. The xied made it run a little cooler and off idle very responsive. Almost too responsive, coming around tight traffic intersections on first gear is not a pleasant posture as I would like, still getting used to this TBW. Im coming off a twin cam B and its buttery smooth no matter what gear its in and linear.
Anyways for the test after cat removal.. off idle its more linear, and motor feels as it has more over rev.. meaning not asking for the next gear as before. Rear cylinder cutoff didnt come on once as it did before. Im assuming its when the motor stumbles off idle at the light for a split second its the rear cylinder cutoff is doing its thing. This is just my observation from my test ride. So in my humble opinion, go for it..absolutely ecstatic about doing this mod..runs cooler, more linear, some topend.. definitely sounds better to me, as one could imagine. I took a few pics that I would like to attach, thanks
