Looking for a center stand. The HD model is nice and chromed, but the install instructions look like the frame needs to be damn near empty to install it. I'm considering the Wheel dock model as it installs with just two bolts. Anyone have any experience/insight to share?

Thanks in advance!

I had the wheeldock on my 05 flht and loved it. It took about 15 minutes to put it on (it was a tight fit for my fat fingers), just two bolts & nuts. Saved some room in the garage and when I parked next to other bikes. I haven't looked under my 10 to see if it has the same holes in the frame, I guess it does or they wouldn't sell one for the 10.

Scott, not to get off topic, but is there a reason why you post in yellow? LOL

I'm dyslexic and the contrast helps. I can't look at the screen when I type, so I look over the mess after the fact. Remember the screens in The Matrix? That's pretty close to what I see after a long day on the PC. If I could just get that flying thing down...

One would assume white text on a black screen would be contrast enough. I gave up on trying to figure it out long ago.

I bought one of the Harley Center Display stands. It was a PITA but after I put in on and off several times, I figured out how to install it, it was easier.

First, I screwed the bolts into the Bolt plate to remove the Locking material from the bolt.

Second I mounted the rear two bolts in place loosely to hold the stand up.

Third I took a straw and moved the single bolt plate in place, with the lip in the hole. I used the straw to hold it in place while I took the third bolt to install. I used some red locktite on the bolt and started the bolt in the bolt plate.
I tightened the bolt and held it as I tightened it to specifications.

Fourth I removed the rear bolts one at a time. I applied Locktite to these bolts and tightened them also.

This is how I mounted the Center Stand.

I have the wheeldock version, and it took me 30 minutes in total to install it. About 25 minutes to figure out exactly where it goes, and then 5 minutes to actually install it.

I use it daily, in the garage at home, saves a lot of space, and when filling up the gas tank, also for any cleaning. Matter of fact, I rarely use my lift anymore just because I can get so much done with the center stand.

You shouldn't use it if your parking on anything other than flat surfaces, (at least I don't). It also is very handy on trips, providing equal easy access to everything on the bike, bags tour pak, etc.

If you let the owner at Wheel dock, know your interested, he normally will have a stand that has been returned that he'll sell at 20% off. Might have a scratch somewhere, but you'll never see it once it's installed.

So how hard is it to get the bike up on the center stand, afterall they do weigh close to 800 lbs?
I dont know about the wheeldock version , but , the Harley version is called a "show stand" I believe , the stand does not lift the bike off the ground , has bolts than you adjust to contact the ground , ya dont have ta adjust every time , just the first time , merely gives you a level bike ...

The Harley "Show Stand" can be adjusted to lift the rear tire off the ground. It states that fact in the instructions. I have mine set to just lift it very little.

The Wheel Dock stand doesn't lift the back tire off the ground. they recommend parking over a piece of plywood if you want the wheel raised.

Getting the bike up on the center stand (wheel dock version) is pretty simple, I almost always just straggle the bike, and stand on the arm / lever with my left foot, a bit of a pull up and back on the handlebars, with standing on the arm /lever, pops it right up.

Technique to pickup the bike with the EZ-Up Center Stand

Some of you have asked "how hard is it to pickup the bike with the EZ-Up Center stand?"

Here's the technique I use and show my customers to use.

1). Put the kickstand down and put the bike in "neutral".

2). Pickup the bike; next place the center part of your boot (where the heel and sole meet) on the chrome lever and press down.

3). Rock the bike back and forth a couple times to make sure you feel both pads on the center stand flat on the ground.

4). If you have a crash bar in front of the left saddlebag; put your hand on it. Then press down and pull up at the same time.

EASY!!

4a). If you don't have a crash bar in front of the left saddlebag, do steps 1-3 and then take your butt of the seat; shift your weight left and push down on the lever.

EASY!!

When I had my 1998 Ultra, I had a front Ride Off Stand. Several time I was at a light. I could take my foot and put the stand on the ground. Then I would roll the bike back a little. The Stand would go down and the Bike would stand straight up and I could sit with my feet on the boards until the light changed. I could then just ride off. It was nice. With the new stand, it is mounted in the center and I can't use it unless I get off to put it down. It is good to use for storage and when washing the bike.
