Going 16inch apes so changed the riser bushings . Impossible to get a torque wrench in there so I'm hand tightening the bolts.
My question is should there be some play in the lower handle bar clamp or should I crank until I can't anymore .

You can use a couple of long extensions from underneath and use the torque wrench. That's what I did but yes you should tighten them all the way.

Thanks for the reply RGken. It just felt as if I was cranking forever. Ellis off to the store to buy a longer extension

Did you throw on the top clamp so the risers wouldn't shift while you were tightening the bolts? helps line them up.

The space below is tight. I turned the forks left and right to reach the bolt easier

I just looked at your picture again and it looks like you have them reversed and upside down.

The top clamp will let you know which one goes where if you use it for a template. Bolting on the top-plate first keeps the risers properly aligned for the tightening of the bolts from underneath.
