I have a 01 S.E.R.G. with 14000 miles. Lately I've noticed a chirping like noise when I let off the gas. It seems more noticeable while the motor is still cool. After I ride awhile it stops. At first I thought a stone in the brake rotor. Then maybe the clutch although it shifts fine. I can't really tell where it comes from other than towards lower front area. Any guesses ?

I took off my lower fairings to have some work done and the noise disappeared. The bike even seems to ride smother with them off. I guess not bucking as much wind

Ditto on the belt, even enough dust/dirt (like from a gravel road) will cause the belt to chirp on decel... Once cleaned up, it'll quiet back down.

If it was isolated to your lowers I'd guess they (or one) were loose.

I had a chirping noise that drove me crazy until I started from front to back and torqued everything to spec. Turned out to be a frame fastener on the right side:

Chirping

Had the same thing happing to my Electra Glide a few months ago. Figured out when I decelerated I got the chirping unless I pulled in the clutch. Went back and adjusted the clutch and no more chirping. Thats what I found with my chirping. Good Luck!!

Loose allen heads on six speed cover

The ones that secure the exhaust bracket on the bottom. Had a churp and couldn't find it. Those were the problem and i guess some have had to heli coil the trans case because of them being loose for a long time and vibrating/wrecking the threads.
