13 RGU- 5k miles -
So I started noticing this sound that just started a week or so ago. I actually heard it first when I was down shifting and went from 5th to 4th and let off throttle, it went "clank" then if I goosed jt I could hear the "Clank". With that said, it was still kinda hard to duplicate like that so I just forgot about it the next day and went on with riding. Not 100miles out and noticed the "clank" again but this time it happens almost every time I pull in clutch lever when shifting. I went and redid the clutch adjustment thinking the jam nut might have came loose but no such luck, its still their...... Anyone wanna help me before I end up taking a couple hr ride to the dealer? Thank

Ya, I'll be making a trip to the dealer today to get it taken care of. Does a inner race or throw out bearing sound like this when going south too? I checked the compensator nut but it was tight.

So I called the dealer, already got the "thats normal, but bring it by so we can make sure" speech. So my Appt. is at 2pm, need some quick responses if possible. When you guys pull in the clutch do you get a clank? Not the clank of shifting but just when riding and wen attempting to shift gears, you pull in clutch and get some kind of a clankin sound as clutch is being pulled?

Sounds to me like the primary chain tensioner may have taken a dump, not real common, but could happen.

They said it was normal amd that they all do it. I went out tonight for a ride and noticed the primary is becoming loud with a metal on metal grinding/chattering louder then normal. I dunno exactly whats going on. Only heard assumptions so far

Well if this is going to be normal on a new bike it well be the last HD for me. I had a few HD over the years and none of them this this, plus mine is giving me lots of top end noise and no this is not normal, but if I take it in I well get the same they all do it bull $h|t..

Don't you get sick and tired of being told that its normal or it has to break in or we weren't able to duplicate it. I love my bike but that shit pisses me off. I had my 12 RGU in because the front brake was pulsing and they told me I needed to get use to abs brakes turns out it was a bad rotor. But the knocking in the primary and the shifter kicking down when I'm up shifting I was told its because I took the heal shifter off. I mean they think we stupid its just makes it where you don't even want to take it in because their just going to give you a line of crap

everything is "normal" to the moco. Maximizing profit is what it is all about. and your comments are spot on. I have the normal neutral rattle and it is almost embarrasing. I actually had the dealer pull the tranny cover and show me it. I was told to not look at the magnet for metal but rather to look at the cover and run a finger over it and see if it has gray filings. mine did not at this point and I just hope it stays together. Clutch was readjusted as well...

Pulled the tranny cover or primary
(derby) cover?

I wanted to come back and add my findings and how to fix this for future reference.

Symptoms - "Clank" type noise herd or felt when:
a) Getting on the throttle
b) letting off the throttle when traveling at speed
c) Pulling clutch in
d) letting clutch out, after the shifting has taken place.

Cause:
the primary chain slapping insides of the primary or primary cover

Solutions -
a) adjust ur clutch and keep things on the tight side of specs. When doing the adjustment.

b) Hayden M6 BT07 Auto tensioner cures almost all of these problems and can be found here:

Clutch noise

Thanks for the post on this. My 13 RG started making a noise when I let the clutch out after putting it into gear. Currently, it is only doing it when the bike is hot. This leads me to believe there is too much play in the chain when it gets hot and the chain stretches. Unfortunately, the weather has turned south here in Central Oregon. Hopefully the weather will clear a bit so I can try your solutions. Also, thanks for the link.

I did notice on my 2012 FLTRX A LOT more primary and transmission noise when I went to SYN3.

I had horrible "clunks" when shifting to the point a guy riding behind me on a fatboy with straight pipes mentioned it.

I also noticed A LOT more top end noise in the engine after it comes up to operating temperature.

I went back to Formula 1 and that solved the transmission and primary noises. I'm even thinking of getting that SYN3 out of the engine.

Probably not the same as what you are experiencing but thought I'd mention it anyway.
