Unfortunately I think my compensator is going. I got on my bike and it wouldnt fire up like it normally does. It made that really bad noise from the primary when it starts. This is the first time I've heard "that noise". My question is I'm still under warranty so is this a covered item?

Chances are the bolt came loose on the compensator. What year is your bike? Do you have the ESP?

Factory warranty (2 year) should cover it. I would recommend getting a ESP program before your factory runs out. It has save me thousands over the years, new top end, $50.00, new throttle body and injectors, $50.00, new transmission case, $50.00, new inner primary, $50.00, new tire, $50.00 Plus other odds and ends. This was on a couple of bikes but you get the picture.

BTW. if they do replace the compensator, tell them you want the one for a 2011, same as the SE compensator. No more banging on start up.

2010 with 7500 miles no ESP
The compensator should be covered by the warranty if your warranty is still active. Unfortunately this is a normal condition for the stock compensator and there is probably nothing wrong with your compensator. If the compensator sprocket is not bad or the compensator bolts are not loose then you have to pay for the work. If the compensator is bad HD will only replace it with the stock compensator which will give you the same problems. You should replace the stock compensator with the SE compensator HD part #40274-08, this compensator will take care of all problems that are related to the compensator such as starter "CLUNK" and primary noise.
